I was on 2 months of Lupron Depot to shrink my fibroids so my surgery could be done laparoscopically, and it stopped my periods with minimal side effects. In addition to red meat, my top picks for iron include pumpkin seeds, blackstrap molasses, lentils, split peas, chickpeas, black beans, and fortified grain or soy products; accompanying these foods with a source of Vitamin C, like a glass of orange juice, can help to boost absorption. If you use cast iron cookware, adding something acidic, like tomato sauce or a splash of vinegar or citrus juice, will cause some iron to leach out into your food, where it's as well-absorbed as iron in food. If you're considering iron supplements, I recommend Floradix, which can be found in most health food stores and major supermarkets, and contains ferrous gluconate, which is easier on the GI tract than ferrous sulfate; peppermint tea can help to counteract the constipating effects of these supplements. Wishing you all the best for managing the remainder of your waiting period, and for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!

Re: I知 struggling to manage heavy bleeding & clots til June. Would love positive tips how to manage :)

Hi, I have LOTS of experience with this. I was told to take Apple Cider Vinegar in Large doses. So I went to GNC and purchased apple cider vinegar tablets (I believe they were 600mg each tablet). Regular dosage is 2 tablets per day. I took 4 tablets 3x per day with food. Surprisingly enough it worked but it did take like a week. I ended up doing this for about 3yrs until I could get a hysterectomy and I was so thankful when that day came and it was the best thing I ever did!
I hope you find information helpful! Good luck to you!!!!

Karen

Somehow I have not become anemic which I am very grateful for! My obgyn said we could try birth control pills again for the short term or Lysteda but I am weary of the side effects.
Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I am struggling and don稚 even want to leave the house these days because Of the heavy bleeding and clots. I really wanted to have a bunch of fun with my kids before my surgery and I知 just not up for anything. Really appreciate any recommendations or positive stories to get me thru to June! Thanks SO much!

Re: I知 struggling to manage heavy bleeding & clots til June. Would love positive tips how to manage :)

I took Lysteda to manage my bleeding while waiting for surgery and it worked great for me. My bleeding was significant and I had become anemic. It also wouldn't stop. Fortunately, the Lysteda stopped the bleeding quickly with no side effects. I continued to take it only during my period while I waited for surgery (I had multiple large fibroids). I was also taking Vitron C (iron supplement) due to a history of iron deficiency. The Lysteda was a huge help for me, and I am very glad I chose the combo of Lysteda followed by a hysterectomy - I only wish I had done it sooner! I hope everything works out well for you.

I've been having a lot of the same issues and I'm still waiting for my date for my hysterectomy

In the meantime the doctor has prescribed tranexamic acid which help heavy bleeding, it is supposed to form clots but I've found my clots have virtually disappeared since taking it.

I was also advised by a specialist menopause GP to switch to non dairy milk etc as apparently dairy can cause heavy bleeding. I'm trying that out (well reducing dairy massively but not completely cutting it out) but it's too soon to tell whether it's working or not.

I know how it feels. From the time I scheduled my surgery to the day of surgery( about six weeks) I bled almost continuously.
I had the same issues as you. Large fibroid and endo.
Surgery was a life saver. I felt so much better after surgery, it made recovery easy. I hope you feel the same way.
I have no words of wisdom to help you for the next few weeks. I never took any hormones. I wouldn稚 have made it through without ibuprofen and lots of black pants.
Good luck
I hope all goes well.

Thank you so much! The Lysteda has helped so much and I pray it continues. I can only take it monthly during my period but I seem to have a heavy period all the time so I have a hard time figuring out what is a period and what isn稚. I can稚 wait to feel better.. and to be able to wear white pants!

I understand.. this is rough! I hope they can book your surgery soon. I have been waiting since January. I have been avoiding dairy too because I have had some GI issues that seem to have started at the same time all of this started. Can稚 wait to feel like a human again!

My doctor prescribed tranexamic acid (TXA) to stop my bleeding (same as yours) and it has changed my quality of life and now I am not planning to have a hysterectomy.
