Fibroids & abnormal bleeding

I am 54, have one very large grapefruit size fibroid tumor that is causing pain in my lower right abdominal area. I've have others as well and they've been around for over 10years..... I am officially in menopause after having my blood tests to determine that. I haven't had a period for two years and suffer minimal menopausal systems. I have abnormal bleeding in the lining of my uterus, but have had a uterine biopsy and it was negative thank God. I have talked to three doctors, two GYN specialists and my GP.....all seem to be leaning towards the Davinci robotic hysterectomy. I have done tons of research and I just keep thinking it will all get better and just keep getting more confused to keep the ovaries or not, to keep the cervix or not, etc. I don't read alot about abnormal bleeding in the lining of the uterus.......anyone else experienced this? I am scheduled for 3/19/12 and am having a tough time deciding on this~ Thanks - blessings

Re: Fibroids & abnormal bleeding

What are the doctors recommending about your cervix and ovaries? I know that there are a lot of opinions about whether it is better to keep them or to let them go with the rest. I was not given the choice, as a result of what led to my hysterectomy, but I am fine without them. I am on HRT, so I am a free of the menopausal symptoms that were really getting bothersome before the surgery.

I was still menstruating, so I can't relate to bleeding when you are already in menopause. However, I would guess that most of us have the surgery because of abnormal bleeding. In my case, normal periods were about 5 days long, and every 24 days from day 1 to day 1. For the last 9 months, I was bleeding for up to 11 days, and once started my next period only 3 days after the previous one stopped. I would bleed through a super-plus tampon and a maxi-pad in an hour. I am SO glad that is behind me.

I wish you well as you make your decisions. Take care.

Re: Fibroids & abnormal bleeding

I would ask what your doctor recommends about your ovaries and cervix. It is dependent on so many factors, your own personal and family health issues, etc. They are best to advise you on the subject.
