Made my decision
Hi Ladies,
I really wanted to wait before making the final decision, but I have made it. I have been in so much pain today that I just can't take it anymore.
I have always had terrible menstrual pain. As a young teen, in the good old days before Ibuprophen, I had the kind of cramps that made me throw up --- all day long, for 12 hours or so. Then, along came ibuprophen and I was able to live with the pain.
Then, last February I was diagnosed with adenomyosis and had the uterine ablation. I really think it would have worked out fine, except that my uterus is severely tilted and the doc wasn't able to get to one corner of the uterus, so that part of the lining is still there.
Now the menstrual pain is something that Ibuprophen doesn't even make a dent in. Darvocet helps a little, but only for a short time, and I can't be bombed on Darvocet all of the time.
I think that if I'd known this would happen, I wouldn't have had the ablation, but then I realize that I HAD to have it done, because I was anemic from the heavy blood loss. Well, my periods are very, very light now but they hurt like I can't even describe. And the pain lasts for about a week -- about four days before it starts and for the first few days.
I am apprehensive about the hysterectomy for a number of reasons, but I decided today that I will have it done because I can NOT live with this level of pain every month. I am 41, so it could be as long as ten years before I stopped menstruating. No way will I live through ten more years of this.
Sorry for such a long post, but I just had to vent.

Made my decision
Hi Crampy and all the LIW out there,
I can completely relate to how you feel. I just found this wonderful website after I made my decision to have a TAH. My big ol' fibroids have been growing and growing, and in August I decided I couldn't take the pain and bleeding anymore. I called a different doctor (mine was lacking in both skill and bedside manner) and asked if he would evaluate me and make a recommendation. He was wonderul, offered all the options, and ultimately helped me decide that at 43, I also had lots of time left before this all would stop but - heck - who wants to go through this every month??? Not to mention it costs a fortune for those products!
Thank you all for being here. It is so nice to know that we don't have to go through this alone. I have had so many question answered just by reading the posts. Some questions were answered that I didn't even know to ask!
{{{{Big, big hugs}}}} to all who are waiting and for those who have gotten to the other side and share their experiences with us.
Love,
Lisa

Made my decision
Dear crampLady, I can totally relate! I had so much pain with periods it was unbearable. I'm so glad I had the hyst. It takes a while to heal from surgery, but once the healing is complete, you'll feel so much better. It's so nice not to have to dread that time of the month anymore. I made it, and you will too! Hang in there.
