Advice appreciated - I don't know what to do
I think some of these husbands need to remember the words "in sickness and in health". Hmmm... or perhaps they are silently freaking out and are avoiding the whole situation rather than dealing with it head on? Whatever the case for those of you who are finding themselves without the support they need, I can't tell you how sorry I am that you're going through that along with everything else. (((HUGS))))

Hi nikicouch!
It sounds like you have been going through a lot, and that's a shame. My advice would be to make an appointment with your doctor for the specific reason of discussing your health issues and possible remedies with your husband present. Yes, that's right...bring him to the appointment and inform your physician ahead of time that you will be doing so.
I hope that you find the path to better health, one way or another, so that you can enjoy the best of what life has in store for you and your family.
Many s and Best Wishes,

nikicouch,
I know this is a difficult decision to make.
Did your husband say why he doesn't want you to have a hyster?
Bizet Woman gave you great advice! I hope your husband will
accompany you to the doctors'. This way he can hear the information
first hand and it may alleviate any fears he may have.
Talk to your doctor again and ask a lot of questions.
I wish you peace as you make your decision.
You will know what the best thing is for you.

Hi nikicouch,
I can understand why your husband doesn't want you to have surgery-- it's a drastic choice & has risks. However, sometimes it is necessary. The challenge is to have confidence that you are making the best decision FOR YOU!
Your husband doesn't need to agree with your decision to support it. By all means bring your husband to a dr's appointment so he can be better informed. Let him know that you are counting on him during this process.
Good luck...

I am sorry you are dealing with all of this!
I agree with everyone that taking your DH with you to your appointments could be very benefitial for you both. Then you each can hear the information first hand and ask questions. Your DH may have specific questions he can ask your doctor which will help he be more understanding of what is going on and also be able to help you with your decision.
Since you mention that your doctor is not sure because of your age, I would also suggest that you get a second opinion. Before considering any major surgery it is wise to seek a second opinion, but it is especially important when your doctor is unsure of what might be best for you. You can ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist, look for another GYN, or ask your GP for a recommendation.
A hysterectomy is a major, irreversible surgery that is not without risks so you want to be sure that you know 100% sure that it is the right choice for you before scheduling surgery.
I would suggest you read through the site, look through our Resource Database, and learn all you can about your condition and a hysterectomy. Seek at least that second medical opinion and then decide what is best for you!
I wish you all the best as you walk this path. Sending many s your way!

since your dr isnt sure you need a hysterectomy, there might be other non surgical options that are available and worth trying. a hysterectomy is major surgery and no one ever knows who will have permanent problems from it and who wont. the best thing you can do is do a lot of research and get a second opinion. discuss keeping your ovaries with your dr. take your time and be sure about your decision.

Advice appreciated - I don't know what to do
I recently had a complete abdominal hysterectomy & I can tell you it was the best thing I have done in quite a while. I too had many questions etc. Ask yourself if you want to continue with all of stop gaps and...lets face it aggrevations or take care of it. I am 55 years old and I am on the 'other side of menepause' so the hormone issue really isn't one.
Please look into hormone therapy and leaving your ovaries so that won't be an issue. From your discription it appears to be your cervix and uterus that is the problem without them "no problem". God Bless and good health
