Some Sisters wake up from surgery with a binder, others are given one at the hospital to wear if desired, still others weren't advised one way or another. I like this lively discussion on binders from a few years ago - opinions are all over the map! Binders: Useful or Wasteful?

My doctor didn't advise me one way or another... plus I was in the "sounds like a bad idea" camp because of swelly belly and got by without one.

Lori, be aware of your pain levels. After my March surgery (abdominal, but not a hysterectomy), my nurses gave me a heads up that the hospital meds would wear off. They did! Was very thankful for a pain prescription.

My doctor has me on two really great pain meds right now. I have low pain tolerance so I’m setting my alarms so even if I’m sleeping I get up to take them.

Walking feels so good once I’m finally upright. Have a good bit of fatigue so plan on resting as I need to.

I’m shocked that I’m basically not bleeding anymore. Just very, very light spotting if that. After bleeding since September 3rd I could just cry for the sheer joy of it all. NO MORE PERIODS!!! No more passing golf-ball size clots.

Doing this was the best Christmas present I could’ve given myself! 🙌🎄

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look and maybe join in. When I had my abdominal surgery a couple month ago, I used it for about 10 days. It really supported me and felt good. Now I guess it's just if I feel I need it.

Hi there! My surgery was on the 17th, and all I want to do is pee! So, I think that it is safe to say that I am having bladder issues with you! I am just thankful that I CAN go. Had such fears that it would be painful or that I wouldn’t be able to go! I am not sure what the culprit is, but wanted to let you know that you are not alone in that department! xoxo

I am two days past surgery now and can’t wait to get my bowels moving again. My tummy is making lots of noise, I’m passing some painful gas, so I’m hopeful things will be forthcoming soon. I’m used to going multiple times per day so this is a little distressing.

Pain is manageable. Very little spotting. After bleeding continuously since September 3rd that’s something to celebrate!

Fatigue has definitely settled in. I’m sleeping a lot right now.

We have two kitties and the youngest one follows me around and wants to cuddle and sleep with me. Keeping her off my tummy has been a challenge. When she does settle into my side and starts purring it actually feels comforting. It’s amazing how sensitive they are to our needs.

Praying all of you are healing well and getting the love and attention you need right now. ☺️💕😘

The pain is very much still here. The binder allows me a lot of relief without needing to take a narcotic. I am grateful to not have any gas pain this time. I have been taking Gas-X in case. (I will probably decrease it tomorrow.)

Thank you creating this wonderful site. When I see my Dr next week for the first post-op follow up, I will,be,proving them with the website to give patients.

Hi, I had my surgery on Thursday November 18. Doctor removed uterus, tubes and cervix. In a previous surgery I had my left ovary taken out so now I was left with my right ovary thank god. I was so afraid they were going to have to remove it too.

Went into surgery at 5pm spend the night at the hospital. Did not had a good night sleep that day. The meds were not doing anything for my pain until 4am they started to kick in and could sleep for an hour.

Now im home with alot of discomfort from the gas. I read a post were they are recommending drinking peppermint tea to help with the discomfort from the gas. I will be trying it and see if it helps.

I had my hysterectomy done the same day you did but at 12:30pm so I was able to go the same day.

I’m drinking Fennel Tea for the intestinal gas pain. I haven’t had the trapped surgical gas pain thank God.

So glad you got to keep your ovary! I kept both of mine. I didn’t want to be thrust into menopause.

Praying for your quick recovery with little to no pain!
