Surgical Clips

After receiving a spine x-ray for excruciating pain radiating down my right leg, I was told I have metal surgical Clips inside my abdomen from my 2012 total hysterectomy that I knew nothing about. I have now read that they can cause complications. Has anyone experienced problems from surgical Clips?

Re: Surgical Clips

and I'm sorry to read about the pain you're experiencing. I don't have any personal insight, and we don't get frequent discussions on surgical clips remaining from surgery, but I found a few past discussions which may be helpful.

In this one Problems with surgical Clips? (10/2017) a member shares what she knows about surgical clips and why they might be left in place intentionally. The other link is Post op metal clips and tail bone pain (05/2011).

It's possible that the clips could be causing pain, but it's just as possible that there's another cause - nerve damage, for instance. Have you gotten a referral to a neurologist and / or a physical therapist? The problems with surgery to remove the clips is (1) if they're not the cause, you could still be in pain and (2) surgery itself can increase the risk of other potential complications such as adhesions (something which led me to emergency surgery for an intestinal obstruction). I would suggest eliminating other possibilities and try non-surgical options first.

Please keep us updated. What you learn may help another sister down The Road.

Surgical Clips

A doplar of the veins in my leg was normal, and an X-ray of my lower spine did not show any problems either. So it would have to be nerve damage not shown on either test. But I am also a Diabetic, which may be causing neuropathy. The exact cause may never be known, but I am still writhing in pain for a whole a month now!!!
