Medicare baby boomers?
I will be on Medicare as of the 1st of October. Anyone have any suggestions on how to sort through the maze of supplement plans? I have been getting envelopes in the mail for about three months. Lately, it has doubled. Today I received two or three. I haven't opened my mail yet. I went to a meeting last month on picking supplements and I think it just made me more confused. On top of the Medicare maze, I had a car accident 10 days ago (other guy's fault) and I have been getting bombarded with envelopes from attorneys wanting to represent me. They get copies of police reports and then send letters/packages with their advertising brochures. Two of them even sent me a DVD about finding an attorney, etc. I also have had phone calls from people offering medical treatment "at no cost to me." Obviously they figure some insurance company will pay and want to be the ones to "help me." I want to scream. What they don't know is that I used to be a Legal Secretary and know the tricks. I just wish they were not allowed to advertise.

Re: Medicare baby boomers?
I am a casemanager and deal with Medicaid and Medicare. With the Medicare prescription part you can call Medicare and tell them what meds you are taking and they will tell you the top 3 plans that are best for you. I hope this helps some.

I called the Senior Center in my Town and made an appointment with the Social Worker there. She was such a help in sorting out and helping me fill out forms.

Re: Medicare baby boomers?
Thanks, Ladies. I found a plan I think is the best one for me and the sales rep did a good job explaining the benefits attached to that program. It is an HMO type and also has a prescription plan attached to it.
About the car accident, that's a different story. My lawyer had to file a lawsuit on my behalf because the other guy's insurance company is denying liability. The other driver told the police officer one story and then told his insurance company that I "was in his lane." How ridiculous. The police officer came to the scene of the accident and saw the location of each car. I think he is denying liability because he is 88 and doesn't want to lose his license. I guess we will let the court settle it. In the meantime, my car is not repaired yet and I have another problem.
I had to go for an exercise stress test (stress echo) a few weeks ago because the EKG that was done in my Primary's office was abnormal. I went to see a cardiologist on Thursday and he put me at ease somewhat. I do have to improve my cholesterol levels. He put me on a low dose of Lipitor and I have another appointment next week because I may have some circulation problems in my legs. I will have another treadmill test and this time they will put the blood pressure cuffs on my legs.
When it rains, it pours. Please keep me in your thoughts and/or prayers that everything works out well.

Re: Medicare baby boomers?
Good news. I finally got my car fixed. The insurance company decided to accept liability. I dropped off my car on Monday at the body shop and picked it up last night. I loved the rental car I had from Hertz. I was supposed to get a small car because the insurance only covers $25/day, but they gave me a bigger car because that was all they had at the time. It was a Chevy Malibu with Sirius XM radio -- "Elvis Channel", "50's Channel" and "60's Channel" were on my favorites. I loved the channels, but was happy to get my own car back.
As for the medical tests, I still haven't heard from the doctor's office. I will call next week if I still don't hear anything. I also found a new Primary Care doctor and saw her on Monday. I wanted someone with privileges at the hospital close to my home where I had my hysterectomy.
I would like to wish everyone (Princess or Princess-in-Waiting) a very happy Holiday Season and a great New Year.

Lynne,
Good to hear things worked out for you with the car. My dh has the Sirius in his new car, it was very nice to have it on a recent road trip.
Merry Christmas and to you.

Re: Medicare baby boomers?
Thanks for all the responses.
Hi Kim,
Do you remember me from the Columbus get-together in 2001?
I received my results of the test -- NORMAL. Now I can relax and continue my exercise. I need to see the cardiologist at the end of March and also my new Primary Care Physician. I will need blood draw for both of them so suspect I can get it done at the same time. I will call the new Primary on Monday to get the form sent to me for the lab. There is a specific lab I need to use that is covered under my insurance. I will call them first to find out if my doctor's office can call them or fax them the request for March. I will need labs for both doctors around mid-March.
