Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 19-Jul 25,2021

Hi all! I had my robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy on July 19th at 8am. The surgery went well despite a blood pressure scare while I was waking up, but I was released somewhere around 12:30-1pm to go home after I was stable. The gas and initial inability to fully empty my bladder have been the worst so far but it seems to be improving. I've been rotating Gabapentin, Tylenol, and Ibuprofen for pain, and have not really needed to touch the oxycodone. I'm definitely starting to feel the incision sites though, and I've had muscle spasms in my upper abdomen and legs. I've also noticed a dull pain in my lower right lung when I breath deep, but only with the belly binder on and when I'm laying down. It's not really noticeable while I'm up and about. Still I've been following the breathing exercises, and try to get up and move around every couple of hours. Overall I feel like it's going well so far, and I'm really happy to have found Hystersisters! It's been very informative and helpful in easing my anxiety.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 19-Jul 25,2021

Hi, I had my robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy on July 20 at 10am. Up to the surgery, I was debating about if this was the right decision. My hysterectomy was due to adenocarcinoma in situ. My oncologist doesn’t think I have any invasive cancer but this was first line treatment. I already have my two kids and my husband doesn’t want any more. However, I was always thinking of a third. Hence, I was emotional up to yesterday. I know I’m doing this to stay around for my kids. Surgery went well. It took me a while to be discharged bc I didn’t pee. But I was able to at 1pm. I was tired and slept and stayed in bed. When I walked to the kitchen, I kept feeling nauseous and threw up twice… since I was fasting nothing much came up.. just water and crackers. I’ve just been sleeping on my back but wish I could sleep on my sides.. just don’t want to do anything to my incisions to make them tear. I’m feeling a lil gas and rectum pain, and starting to feel my incisions a bit more. But I haven’t taken any pain meds. Dr prescribed tramodol, Motrin and Tylenol.

Hello, had my LAVH this morning (7/21) at 9:45. It is now 7pm, surgery took a couple hrs I think. I was home by430. I struggled to pee at first but things seems to be working properly now, I’m able to get up and move around. My pain is manageable, mostly like mild period cramps. Over all I feel pretty well. My only thing is idk if my binder is on tight enough or not.I’ll update u guys again tomorrow!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 19-Jul 25,2021

Just dropping by to wish you well.

Welcome to all who have made it to the other side

❤️

Healing should be your main focus! This was major surgery and healing takes place both inside & outside. Don’t be surprised if you experience things both emotionally and physically in the weeks to come. This process is different for everyone, learned to be patient and listen to your own body is key to helping to heal.

So here is some sisterly advice:
• Follow your doctor’s orders/restrictions
• Time to lean on others for help, the priority is YOU
• Get plenty of rest (your sleep maybe intermittent so nap when you are tired)
• Drink lots of water, seriously lots! (you want to pee out the anesthesia drugs)
• Take your meds as directed (don’t be a warrior in pain)
• No lifting, pushing, pulling, or bending (ask for help)
• Walk a little each day as you are able (trips to bathroom might be your start)

Remember your main job now is to rest and recover - without guilt! You just had major surgery.

Please remember this key to a better recovery: take your pain meds as prescribed by your doctor. Your body needs to concentrate on healing and not fighting pain.

Take care all.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 19-Jul 25,2021

It’s Day 2 and it hurts to cough and laugh. I can feel the pain in my stitches. Just a lil spotting. I’ve been able to pee.. just waiting for a bowel movement. Hubby and my sister were here to help yesterday. Today, it’ll just be my sister.

Hi and welcome,

Try using a small pillow to cushion the blows of coughs, sneezes, future little pets jumping in your lap, etc.
see if ice chips soothe your throat.

Feel better.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 19-Jul 25,2021

24 hrs after surgery. And surprisingly I feel amazing. Almost no pain (shoulder pain from gas is the worst) slight cramping and coughing is scary. I’ve been keeping my abdominal binder on and it seems to be helping a lot! As far as pain meds I took an oxy at the hospital and have only rotated Tylenol and ibuprofen since then. Still relaxing so I don’t over do it even tho I feel good.

Went in for my hysterectomy yesterday morning and was released home last night. Feeling okay! Gas pain is the worst of it. Read my operative report this morning. Minimal spotting so far.
