Had PreOp Appointment Today

Had my preop appointment today and it went well. Doctor informed me that I will have a Total Hysterectomy with tubes removed but will keep my ovaries if they are still good. However, I will have to take some hormones afterwards. Can't drive for 4 weeks. I'm wondering if anyone had any previous stomach surgeries and did that affect this surgery? The reason I’m asking is because my surgeons are concerned since I had a Nissan fundoplication done in the past. I was told I would be in surgery 4 to 5 hours. Did anyone become nauseated from the anesthesia? I think I’m more anxious because they tell you the worse scenario. I was also told it may not help with my pelvic pain. However, I'm trying to stay positive but hope I can get some rest within the next few days. Thanks for all of the support.

Re: Had PreOp Appointment Today

You can tell your anesthesiologist about your concern regarding nausea. They can give you anti-nausea meds with the anesthetic that work well. That is what they did for me, and I did not get sick .

Also know that your fears, nerves, and concerns are all normal. This is one tough surgery to face. We are here to help and support you.

Re: Had PreOp Appointment Today

I had my surgery on Jan 13th. I had a wave of nausea when they inserted my IV. The nurse anesthetist put a small patch behind my ear, and I did not have any nausea after that! Ask for the patch.

Make sure the nurse takes it off once you are in a regular room, though - it decreases saliva production so when I tried to eat saltine crackers, they turned to sawdust in my mouth. Better than nausea, though!
