Ultrasound Results

Well I had my ultrasound on Monday and I stopped today to get a copy of the report. I am probably posting prematurely because the dr hasn't called yet. I am just curious what he will suggest based on the report.

Report says:

uterus measures 10.1x5.9x4.4 cm - not sure what normal size is, he did say at my appt that it was enlarged some.

several uterine fibroids are identified - #1 is 2.2 cm. #2 is 1.6 cm - both increased slightly from previous study. #3 is 1.1 cm. #4 is 1.1 cm and partially submucosal - this use to be 2.2 cm but was taken off by ablation in Oct. 2007.

Endometrial strip is 5mm - don't know what normal is especially after having an ablation.

Right ovary is unremarkable. Left ovary is 4.7x2.9x2.6cm - there is a complex hypoechoic mass in left ovary.

Soooo, really curious what he will want to do. I am tired of the crampy/pressure feeling throughout the month as well as the painful cramps that wake me during the night every so often. The bloating - oh would love to get rid of that too, I feel pregnant and my pants are always so tight. Not sure if these findings would relate to the slight urinary incontinence I have been experiencing.

Anyone similar to me? What did your dr recommend?

Re: Ultrasound Results

Some of our sisters have reported that their fibroids caused pressure on their bladder which sometimes resulted in incontinence. Sounds like maybe you are about to be faced with a big decision. Hopefully your doctor will give you a few options to choose from. I hope that everything goes well for you.

Re: Ultrasound Results

A normal sized uterus is 8-10 cm x 6 cm. So you are close.
After my first ultra sound in 2007 my uterus was distorted due to the fibroids and measured 6.9 x 6.9 x 9.3.
My fibroids were bigger though serimucosal (on the outside of the uterus) 5cm x 6 and 4cm x 6cm. I was told my uterus was the size of a 12 week pregnancy. The doctor who did this ultra sound recommended a hysterectomy. She did mention in passing a myomectomy and UAE, but thought a hyst was the way I should go.

Fast forward to 2009 and doctor #2. By now my uterus was the size of a 20 week pregnancy. I now had 4 distinct fibroids 12cm being the largest, a 7cm , 6cm and a 5cm. When I laid on my back you could see a large lump. Doctor #2 recommended ablination or minerva, UAE or a hyst if I was ready. She mentioned that she could do a hyst with a scope, which was the first time I had heard of a LSH, but also felt a bit uncomfortable doing it on such a large uterus. I asked about a myomectomy and she reffered me to doctor #3.
His ultra sound showed the same big 4, but also a uterine polyup which was making the walls of my uterus look thicker.
He felt confident about doing a LSH even on my extra large uterus.(fibroids and all it totaled 1100 grams) So I went with him.
I had some bladder incontinence, when I sneezed or did athletic stuff-only if my bladder was full though so I thought I could live with it.
I had pressure, heavier periods than in the past, some cramping, and some throbbing when I wore the wrong pants.
All of it was livable. But now not having the fibroids pushing on everything, feeling like my bladder fully empties, not getting up in the middle of the night to pee, fitting into my pants better.....well all in all life is much better.

I tell you all this to remind you to get a second opinion and explore all of the options available to you. It is important that you feel comfortable with what ever decision you make.
Let us know what the doctor says. We are all here to support you.
