Re: How is uterus removed with Da'Vinci TAH/BSO?

I had Da Vinci and had everything removed (uterus, cervix, tubes and ovaries). I had four incisions on my tummy and everything came out through those incisions. I guess it just depends on your doctor and the situation with your organs. Good luck to you.

I agree (((paxton88))), there is some confusion going on and you need to get some clarification. You cannot have a TAH if you are having the daVinci hysterectomy.

TAH does stand for Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. While the term total does mean the uterus and cervix were removed, the term abdominal indicates there will be a single abdominal incision, either vertical or horizontal (often referred to as the bikini cut) from which the uterus will be removed. When surgery is considered a TAH, it indicates there will be no use of a laparoscope or the daVinci robot.

Try not to worry this weekend (((paxton88))), but do touch base with your doctor's office on Monday and make sure you are scheduled for the correct procedure! Sometimes doctors do use some unique terminology, but you want to make sure all is well before you head into OR!

I had the davinci for my endometrial cancer. As noted if the Dr can't do the surgery laproscopically with the davinci they will convert to an abdominal surgery. You need to talk to your surgeon so that you knowfor sure that this is the approach..start with robotic laproscopy and convert if there are issues.

The dr will not use a morselator due to your cancer diagnosis. They need to remove the uterus intact (including the cervix which is part of your uterus). If this is done via the davinci it will be removed vaginally, prior to removal the surgeon will bag the organs to assist in decreasing the possible spread of the cancer. Your tubes, ovaries andany lymphnodes they may takeout are removed the same way.

There are at least 3 and 5 incision davinci systems. Where the incisions are depend on your the length and width of your torso. My 5 incisions made sort of a right angle triangle. Each were about 1/2 inch long. The camers port was right above my belly button.

I hope this helps.

WooHoo!! Just talked to gyn/onc's nurse. She said pre-admit nurse wrote it wrong. Orders in system are TLH/BSO. She said he will removed vaginally unless impossible. She did say not to worry he has removed some really huge things. She doesn't foresee mine being an issue. I'm so excited.
