Duphaston for heavy periods

Hi just wondering whether anyone has tried Duphaston for heavy periods and fibriods, I have had the Mirena coil which did not do much for me, have tried 4 months of Lupron still bled while on that have taken progesterone, but only when I wanted to delay a period, now my Gyni has put me on Duphaston to take on day 5 until day 25. I am trying to avoid having a hysterectomy and have been having treatment for the last two years (am 53) just had blood test done to see if I am menopausal yet and it came back at measuring 8 which my Gyni said the menopausal figure is around 40 does this mean I am still years off the menopause? or can it suddenly rise over a period of months. I feel as though I am being am just on a trial and error right now (error being the most frequent) Has anyone tried any other treatments for heavy periods with fibriods I have one that is submucous and that is the one causing the problems, she said she might try to laser it but she could only get a small amount as it is growing into the wall. I am willing to try almost anything the thing I read about Duphaston was that you can gain weight from it anybody had this problem?

Thanks

Duphaston for heavy periods

Hi Cadey,

I am not familiar with Duphaston - perhaps this drug goes by a different name in the U.S.? If you do a keyword search using the Search button at the top of this screen and search on "Duphaston" you'll receive a list of threads where this is mentioned.

You might also do a search using Google or WebMD to see what that turns up. If this is a progestin, it might increase your appetite (drugs like Megace do this) so it could result in weight gain.

If you fibroid is submucosal (on inside lining of uterus) are you a candidate for hysteroscopic removal of the fibroid? This might take care of the problem, if that is the only thing causing your heavy bleeding. Another option might be a myomectomy - a surgical procedure where only the fibroid(s) are removed and your uterus is "repaired" and remains.

Let us know what you find out. Hope you get some much needed relief soon!

Hi Cadey,

Hmm ... I'm not familiar with that drug name either. Try searching on a medical site to see if the U.S. name comes up. Then search here for threads that mention this medication.
