a matter of perception (teenagers discussed)

i was driving my 16-year old son and his best friend the other night and telling my son that my surgery has been scheduled for march 30. he asked what was being taken out and i told him uterus, cervix and left fallopian tube/ovary. his friend said "wow, so you won't be a woman anymore" which immediately made me sad because thats what i was feeling and crying about last week. i told him that was exactly what i was afraid of, then my son spoke up and said "why wouldn't you feel like a woman? you had your tubes tied, so your done having kids, so you don't need a uterus anymore. you still have boobs and a vagina, so don't worry, you're still a woman". it was weird how a 16-year old boy could put it all back into perspective for me. i'm still nervous, scared, anxious and terrified, but i'm no longer doubting that i'm going into it a woman and coming out of it a woman...

Okay..I needed to hear that too! Your son just made me feel better too! Give him another quick kiss for making me feel better. I know it has to be quick cause my 15 yoa son only allows quick ones. I really needed that!

What a mature answer for a 16 year old. Give him a big hug from me. Made my morning - some people don't know what to say when they hear.

Someone I work with told me that I was going to "age" very quickly????

Re: a matter of perception (teenagers discussed)

What a wonderful son you have raised!!! I'm sure he is hating all the extra kisses so I will only send a hug. The fears going into any surgery are great. Facing the unknown of a hysterectomy can be even harder. Its so wonderful to find someone who can say just the right thing to help you put everything into place. I just passed my 2year mark and I am still all woman~hear me roar!

I have a 16 y.o. son as well...funny how they can drive you nuts one minute, and then turn around and floor you with something really sweet, isn't it?

Gotta love our boys!!!
