Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2010

If your hysterectomy was between Nov 01-Nov 07,2010 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads will be moved at approximately 8 weeks post-op to the Date Club forum inside the HysterSisters clubhouse.

  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Hi all,
I'm about 15 hours out from surgery and feeling good. No pain so far! I haven't seen the doc yet, but she spoke with dh yesterday and said it went off without a hitch. My only complaint is the itching caused by the spinal pain killer they gave me. That said that was the way to go for me. No nausea and awake soon after surgery. Peas able to go for a short walk by 8:00 just 3.5 hours out. Walked again this am and am feeling more confident as each hour passes. They removed my catheter this am, a little uncomfortable but not too bad! Hope everyone else is feeling good this am too!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2010

Welcome, fellow !!

You made it this far!

But you may also be having the thoughts of "now what?"

I can remember back to my recovery time wondering if I was "normal" or not. Even though I heard and knew we all heal at different rates I wasn't really sure what that meant. I also didn't know what all healing entailed or what progress I should be making. There were more questions and emotions so it was wonderful to have HysterSisters and my surgery week Recovery thread where I could find other women who were experiencing the same things.

The purpose of this thread is to give you a place to update us on how you're doing as you recover and begin to heal from surgery. I will be hanging out with you in this thread, to keep you company during your initial recovery period (remember initial recovery is 2 to 8 weeks, depending on type of surgery with full recovery up to a year).

I'll be checking in on the thread frequently, providing some answers, and also letting you know about resources on the site. At times, I might direct you to forums where you might get more answers from members farther along on their recovery journey.

For now, here's the standard advice I give to newly-recovering (((sisters))):
  1. Take your meds on schedule, as prescribed. At least for a few days, don't wait for the pain to get bad -- you need to stay on top of the pain to keep it controlled.
  2. Drink lots of water.
  3. Take frequent walks. (I always say if you drink enough water, the waks will take care of themselves. )
  4. Get plenty of rest and remember you are a . Because of this, your loyal subjects (family and friends) should be handling all menial tasks to allow you to spend your time healing.

Let us know how you're doing, and we'll get through your recovery period together!

Hi all - I am home from castle. TVH/posterier wall repair. One night in hospital. Hurts, but I am using pain reliever, for sure. I will tell you more later - just so tired now. I've had 3 naps since 10am this morning when I came home.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2010

I made it home from the castle. The doctor was going to release me the same day (Mon, Nov. 1 after TVH) but I was in so much pain I didn't want to leave! They kept me and released me on Tuesday. I'm still experiencing pain and wondering if it's okay to take gas-x as I think that could be contributing. Can't sleep either. I haven't found a single comfortable position to lay. Just tired and miserable but each day that passes it seems to get better. Had a great friend bring me to the castle and he cracked jokes the whole time because he knew I was nervous. It really passed time and made me feel more at ease.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2010

Wasntme - I started taking Gas-X on the evening of my surgery. With doctor's permission.

I didn't expect to feel so thirsty. Oh my goodness! I think that is the worst symptom for me in the past couple of days. Besides feeling like I have a butcher knife stuck up my Va-J-J. lol

In pain - but taking pain relief as I need it. Not being a superwoman about that.

Hubby is being wonderful. He went back to work today. I am left alone - he'll come home at lunch to check on me. I think I'll take another shower when he is here.

Oh - This was interesting. Yesterday before I left hospital, my doctor said to take a shower as soon as I got home to get the "hospital germs" off of me. So I did. Just quick one - no washing my hair or anything like that. Just Safeguard soap.

This is so wonderful - Our meals are being covered by friends for the next 6 days. I am so humbled by them. And I have 8 meals in the freezer that I prepared pre-op.

I have had 2 potty accidents - needed to urinate, and didn't make it. Then I started setting my egg timer for an hour and just went at that time. So I'm better about that now.

How is everyone else doing today?

I think the biggest milestone for me so far came about 5 this morning. I "released gas"!! It felt so much better as I didn't have so much pressure in my abdomen. I'm still crampy in my back though. Got up and walked for a bit to help move the gas along! I had my daughter stay home from school to keep an eye on me today but I didn't wake up in time to wake up my son for school so now I have 2 caregivers! I was just glad to get some rest and don't care what his school has to say! I was happy to have some coffee this morning. It helps me to go pee. I'm finally starting to not feel like I have to urinate after urinating! I think that was caused from the catheter. The more I fill my bladder and go, the better it gets.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2010

Hi Sisters!

My TVH with TOT sling was on Monday at 11:15 and I was feeling well enough to leave the Castle at 12:30 yesterday -- passed my voiding test with flying colors, but I had been feeling nauseous off and on the night before but since I was able to mostly hold down my breakfast and some lunch they let me go -- although my doctor told me it was completely up to me and I could stay another day if I wanted to, and my nurses said the same,I felt good enough to leave. I still felt pretty good once I got home, although the drive home was a little rough, and I ate again, but I think I ate a little too much because I got sick again. Then, thinking that it was the Percocet making me sick, I cut it down to 1 every four hours. After spending a night last night feeling nauseous, and in a little pain, and feeling just generally punky, I finally decided to take TWO percocets at 5 am == what a relief! My nausea and pain went away and I had a nice sleep in my recliner and am feeling so much better now!!

I knew better, too, having read it on here so many times! Lesson learned and I hope to be much more comfortable from here on in!

Anyway == everything seems to be working normally, no bm yet but I'm still peeing great and passing gas. One of my most memorable moments at the castle was in the preop area I noticed a poster on wall that said WELCOME to (name of the women's surgical center) and next to it they had a picture of a fairy-tale castle!! I just thought that was so cool and it made me feel more at home.

Anyway -- I'll have much more to write later == just wanted to check in and say I'm doing well and to say thank you for this site ==it was helpful in so many many ways == I really do think you all made my experience so much better!!

Here's hoping all my Nov. 1st sisters are doing well!

Effie

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2010

Hi all. My first post got eaten, I see.

TLH with cytoscopy 1 Nov. Overnighted in hospital, came home Tuesday AM. Pain under control with Perc and Motrin for now. Passed gas Tueday night (I peed on my own about as soon as the Foley came out)
Screaminly thirsty, but no fever or chills. Dr's treated me agressively for nausea (Zofran and Decadon while in surgery, scopolamine patch over my R ear), and I think the lack of nausea is helping me out a lot. So far, much easier than my transverse C-section.

Been moving around a lot (up/down stairs, around the house, out for the mail).
