Has anyone had foot surgery with their hysterectomy?
No only do I have cramps and bleeding every 2 weeks, I developed a spur in my feet. My right foot hurts constantly, and the foot Doc said he could operate on my foot after my hysterectomy and would only need one in a half hours more for the surgery, if my Gyn did not mind. He said I will be in a below the knee foot cast for 2 weeks and recovery is approx 4-6 weeks. I figured while I am out, I just found out 2 mths ago that I am a diabetic too and I am so unsure about the complications of healing with the hysto. Which pain is worst?

Now that sounds like a great idea! Seriously, I've had bunions for over 20 years (got them as a little girl) and should've had them taken care of at the same time-although there is the walking issue. I contribute a lot of my quick healing to walking as much as possible-without overdoing-as soon as possible. At the eye clinic I used to work at, they would coordinate surgeries like that to save the patient-esp diabetics, from having to go through a general twice. Talk it over extensively with both doctors & hopefully they will talk to eachother & come up with a plan that will suit you best. Good luck!

I need to ask my GYN to talk with my Foot Dr. I though about the walking issue too. I don't know how if you are supposed to walk on the operated foot right away or not. He said he would put a from the knee down cast. How do you feel now that you have had your surgery? I have been worried about having my cervix removed with the uterus, hopefully my ovaries will stay (if heathly)..

Has anyone had foot surgery with their hysterectomy?
I feel GREAT. I have to keep telling myself that I had a major surgery & can't lift, or sweep, vaccuum or um, you know! With no abdominal incision, being young & in good health with a supportive family & prayers, it has all been very non eventful.
I will return to work tomorrow-school nurse 4 hrs/day & have my 2 week check on the 14th. I'm going back 2 days early. I felt good enough to go back last week, but had a sub for those days-its so hard to find an RN who only works part time to pick up a few extra hours. I have a couple of little charges that really need a nurse there when they have their medicine.
Ask your foot Dr if it will be a walking cast, and ask your Gyn if you will have Vag or Abd. It makes a huge difference in recovery.
I've had a laproscopic procedure (gallbladder) and I thought this (TVH/BSO) intitial recovery was easier. But could lift etc after 5-7 days. I've also had an open abd (corpus luteum ovarian cyst while pregnant) and that one had me down for 4 weeks. Not to mention I had a growing uterus too.
Write down all of your questions and the answers you get-don't worry about taking their time by writing it down, and keep the list handy-so you can add to it. No question is a dumb one either! Good Luck!

The foot Doc said it would be a walking cast, and that I would need to be under another hour and a half. I am having Vaginal hysto. I have been limping around more and more with this foot. You sure are recovering fast. How long were you down for the count? Being a nurse probably helps...Good Luck going back to work..are you going parttime for now?

I've had both!
I'm about 10 days post surgery and doing fairly well. I had foot surgery two years ago and this is less pain initially, but lasting longer. The foot surgery was excruciating, but I was given the same pain meds this time. Personally, I would say it will be a lot to contend with (doing them both at the same time). But knowing that you'll be down and out for a bit regardless, you may as well do them together. I'm also pre-diabetic and I'm not sure that will add too much to the mix for you right away, assuming your blood sugars are kept under control well throughout. Good luck!

Has anyone had foot surgery with their hysterectomy?
Surgery only lasted 70 min, so not too bad. I also got a surprise that I went to school with one of the nurses in the OR & one of my substitutes works at that OR as well. I only work from 10-230. It covers all the recesses & lunch-I get 1/2 hr too. It's pretty much desk-bandaids, icepacks, & medicine. I do usually go to the high school everyday-its a 2 block walk, so that'll help me keep walking. Everyone at work as been real supportive as well. They were boggled that I was feeling so good.
You have 2 plusses(is that a word?) in the vag & walking cast. Just be sure if you decide to do this that you have plenty of help at home. With pain meds & being off balance & the no cast in shower, you're going to need it. I froze several meals ahead of time & got the couch area ready for me to be there for a while, books, movies, remotes, thank yous, meds & note book to keep track of when I took what. That came in handy the 1st day or 2 as I was alternating Vicodin & ibuprofen.
I'm sure what ever decision you make will be the right one. Get as much info as you can & if you are a spiritual person-pray over it. Prayer has done wonders for me.

Has anyone had foot surgery with their hysterectomy?
Church and Prayer have been my life savers. I will know for sure next week whether or not I will have both surgery. I am also having a bladder lift and my Gyn said he could make my cesaraen scar alot flatter. I did not think they could do all this surgery through the Vaginal area, being that I never had vaginal births..

foot surgery
Me either, births that is. I'm an adoptive mom. And I second the "freeze some meals" advice. I ordered from a local Let's Dish kind of place that you go and put together meals at their kitchen, but found one locally where they did all the work (I was running behind on time). So I just stopped in, picked up 8 gourmet-style freezer meals and they've been a Godsend. I'd also stock up on simple lunches you can prepare for yourself while at home (pop open soup for microwave, etc.).
