Re: Surgery tomorrow
Hi JennBeasley to HysterSisters
I am so glad you found this site.
Having a hysterectomy is MAJOR SURGERY. Recovery is different for everyone, but you really need to think in terms of weeks and not days. You will need help with cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, shopping, driving, etc. You will not be bedridden, but you will need to rest much. You will be able to do minor items around the house but much will be left undone - like house cleaning. You will have lifting limits: 10 lbs for 6 weeks and 20 lbs for 8 weeks is common. You will have driving restrictions: 2 weeks is common.
Returning to work just two weeks after your surgery may be a bit ambitious. Work takes way more energy than you think. You may not be able to sit that long or stand that long. How much assistance can you get? Do you have a teacher's aid? Talk to your doctor about your job duties and whether you will be released from going back to work this soon.
We do have other teachers on this site. Hopefully one who sees this post will respond with her experience.
