Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

No. I wasn't able to have that option due to endometrial cancer. I'm 40 years old and 2 weeks post op.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I had a large mass on my right ovary, and they thought it might be cancer, so it had to go. My doctor and I decided for her to take both ovaries and uterus, because my sister had uterine cancer when she was 19, and my other sister has severe cysts. My mother, too, had a (benign) tumor the size of a cantaloupe removed from her uterus a few years ago. It just seemed best to get rid of all of it.

So they are both gone. Not having a lot of hormone problems yet, but only three weeks post-surgery so far.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I had a TAH-LSO. My surgeon. Would only take one ovary since she did not want me to go into abrupt menopause and I am 48. My left had a cyst.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I just had a total hysterectomy yesterday. They removed EVERYTHING! They are putting on Estrogel but I haven't tried it yet. (I still have on the hormone patch they put on in recovery.)

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I kept one because I was afraid of hormones. I have major depression and on top of it I could never take the birth control pill because the few times I took it, it made my thyroid overactive. My older sister has a pituitary tumor that required surgery and cysts on her thyroid. She had a TAH earlier this year and her pituitary tumor doubled in size afterwards. Apparently this is very uncommon so I don't want to scare anybody!
