Asking for BCP to stop next cycle
Has anyone thought of asking for birth control pills to avoid having the next period?? I thought I would only have ONE more cycle before surgery but I guess she showed me when she showed up early (meaning that now I will have two cycles before surgery). This one has been particularly mean too. I spent the entire night in the fetal position with pain that ranked about a 15 on a scale of 1-10. I have fibroids and they are wreaking havoc on my body. I wonder if my doctor would give me pills to avoid having another cycle? I haven't been on them in 15 years or so but I am willing to do anything to avoid this again.

Re: Asking for BCP to stop next cycle
Hi DisneyNut! (Love the name, btw.)
As for the BCPs.... My doctor had me stop mine 2 weeks before my TVH to cut the risk of blood clots. Not sure how your dr would feel about prescribing a months worth, and I'm not sure how I would feel about taking them so close to surgery if they increase the risk of clots. Maybe he could prescribe something for the pain of the next cycle instead. Good luck in your decision. See you on the other side!

Re: Asking for BCP to stop next cycle
I don't see why not. Birth control pills are quite often prescribed to women who aren't at all likely to get pregnant simply for the sake of giving their ovaries a rest from constant cycling and decreasing their chances of ovarian cancer.
Ask your doc.

Re: Asking for BCP to stop next cycle
See it's been so long since I've been on them I didn't even think about the blood clot issues and since those run in my family anyway I guess I will just have to tough it through another cycle. Oh well it was a thought. As for meds for the pain, I am already on those and they simply weren't touching it last night. I was miserable for hours. Took one pain pill at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Couldn't take another one until 1:00 AM and was managing to sleep at that hour. I woke up at 3:00 doubled over and got up to take another pill. At 4:00 I got up to grab my trusty heating pad. I managed to get back to sleep finally at 6:00 only to have to get up and come to work at 6:30. It might be a long evening.

Re: Asking for BCP to stop next cycle
I was on bcp for about 8 months consecutively to stop my heavy bleeding, and was on them until the day before surgery. Even through the pills I still spotted some and had a period in January before my February operation. I did not have alot of pain wit my cycles though, just bleeding and anemia.

Oh Disney I'm so sorry you are having so much pain. I hope the next cycle is much easier on you. Sounds like you're going to need a nap today! Be good to yourself before and after surgery. I believe that your healing can begin before your surgery. The better rested and better nourished you are going in, the better your recovery starts out.
