Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
Well, after what looks like an unsuccessful 6 month attempt with Megace for complex atypical hyperplasia, it would appear that an LAVH is in my very near future.
Six months ago, when I was still exploring my options, my doctor said that I would be able to keep my ovaries, but does anyone know what happens to the fallopian tubes? For some reason, I thought I remember the doctor telling me that they usually remove the tubes too since they can appear as fluid filled sacs or cysts on ultrasounds if I should need an ultrasound in the future.
I have a follow up appointment with my doctor for the D&C I had last week, so I will ask him again then, but in the meantime, if you were able to keep your ovaries, did you also keep your fallopian tubes or were they removed? Thanks so much!

Re: Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
I kept my ovaries and tubes and had my cervix and uterus removed.Talk to your doctor at your appointment. If your tubes are not diseased or causing you problems I don't see why you'd need to have them removed.I did have my tubes tied years ago, not sure if that made a difference in my doctors decision to leave them in.

Re: Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
Apparently some relatively recent studies show benefit in removing the tubes, as ovarian ca can start there. But no, I haven't read the studies, so you'd have to ask your Dr about that. I believe I've also seen there's an article here on HS about that but I'm not sure how to find it, sorry. I don't know a downside to removing tubes, although I'm no expert. Sorry you are facing surgery at all, but glad you can keep your ovaries.

Re: Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
I lost my right tube due to an ectopic pregnancy several years ago. My ovaries looked fine so my doctor left them. I asked about the remaining tube and she said she'd leave it. She said usually they are left in place. But, it depends on the situation, family history, etc.

Re: Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
Dr removed uterus, cervix and one tube. The plan was to leave the overies and tubes but had to remove one due to position of my fibroids. I was so concerned about keeping or removing cervix I really did not think too much about the tubes.

Re: Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
My dr. also mentioned that cancer can start in the tubes and recommended that they go. She also mentioned the studies. I had both of my tubes removed on Wed with my TLH. The plan was to keep the ovaries to prevent early menopause. They found endo on both, but managed to keep them.

Re: Keep Ovaries but Remove Tubes???
I kept my ovaries but not my tubes, also took the cervix as I had a sister with cervical cancer. I wasn't really worried either way about the tubes tbh.
