Unhappy - Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 29-Apr 04,2021 Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 29-Apr 04,2021

Hey Everyone,

So we're about 8 weeks out. I had my 6 week check a bit ago and had to have some granulation tissue cauterized (not fun) but things were looking up...small complications, like a few external sutures popping (Had A & P repair also), were resolving. Then I tried to ease back into 'normal' since I was cleared....

Anyone struggling with sex issues? My partner and I have tried twice and are only partially successful. With the prolapse/rectocele/cystocele repair my vagina is now SO narrow that after about 2 inches it's literally (maybe) 1 inch wide and doesn't 'give' at all! I've started using dilators but I'm getting very discouraged I'll ever have normal sex again. I'd previously had a healthy sex life (minus some prolapse pain) for the first time Ever and this is so disheartening... I'm really starting to regret ever getting the surgery.

week 6 I had a lot too...Dr told me that was normal because the internal sutures are dissolving. I know I'm a couple weeks late in my reply but I'd guess the discharge has either decreased significantly or stopped.

I am at 9 weeks tomorrow. I had my final post op appointment today. I was cleared for everything including intercourse. I had a total hysterectomy April 1 and kept my ovaries. All I wanted was to get cleared and now I am nervous to have sex with my husband. The dr said to keep in mind that even though it’s safe it might cause pain due to being a fresh scar and to take things slow. Any advice?

I was tender, so hubby just used lots of self control and was gentle and shallow.
Some positions lend themselves to a shallower depth, so that would be a good start. Theres a site called Christian Friendly Sex Positions that has things broken down by type and shows stick figures demonstrating so it's not pornographic, so maybe pick a few from there?
Otherwise, just be sure to ease into things, having your head in the right place will help a lot.
Also, hubby "checked" the depth for me, and the scar was further in than we had thought and that made me less nervous.

Slow, shallow and lots of lubrication are great advice in my experience so far!....it's a process (which I was not prepared for). My Dr. said it would be "different" and that was an understatement. I thought it would just 'feel weird'-not correct at all. Things may be smaller and tender in there so be gentle. I've started using dilators to open things up and it's getting better. I'm trying to remain hopeful that a semblance of normal will return.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 29-Apr 04,2021

Had my post op today at 9 weeks and 1 day since LAVH. Got the clear for all activities. I will be taking it slow with certain activities as the exam was enough to make me realize how tender things still feel in there. Started running again which is a positive. Still have days with some discomfort, sitting and the like. Doctor reminded me I may need to slow down, as full healing takes 6 months. Just like I've read here many times!! Hope everyone is doing well!
