To HRT or not to HRT, that is the question…

Hello! I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago at the age of 34. I have been on HRT since then. Everything was going great until Minivelle stopped offering payment support for their HRT patches and my insurance refused to pay since there was a generic available. Minivelle works great for my body but it is almost $200 a month. In December 2019 we started changing my hormones and my body has gone downhill ever since. I developed food allergies, have gained weight, my already high cholesterol has climbed 50 points, and I am way more irritable.

When I was on vacation, I forgot to change my patch for a week and a half and was way happier, had no depressed mood, and was not irritable. Now that I am back in it, I am back to hating life.

I was told that I needed to be on HRT to help prevent heart disease. I am now 40 and my gut tells me to get off HRT. Have any other young ladies made the decision to go without HRT?

Your thoughts, opinions, and experiences are very much appreciated!

Thanks!!

Kim

To HRT or not to HRT, that is the question…

My dr said its very important to be on hrt and i was 39 now I am 40. I have been on it for 1 year, then recently she added testosterone. I dont feel any different since she added the testosterone. Anyway I am happy on the hrt i feel great. I was really nervous and told her i didnt want to use it but she said promise me you will. She said my skin, hair, bones and vagina need it to stay young and healthy. She said i should be one it well past age 50. I am on a bio identical compound cream and I do not have insurance. I pay $200 every 4 months. I am on a low dose, she put me on the lowest that she felt is just enough.

Can I ask what dosage she has you on? Is it just estradiol?

Definitely! It is estradiol .1 mg. All I take is the estradiol. I had a complete hysterectomy so no ovaries.

I am on estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. I completely trust her that she has me on the right dosage.

That is great for you. My gut tells me that something is off with mine. After you asked what dosage I was on, I looked and I am on the highest possible dose. I know something is not right with mine and I have to advocate for it to be fixed.

I use the generic Grove Pharmaceuticals Estradiol patch 0.1mg (Grove is a subsidiary of Noven Pharma -- who produces the name brand Minivelle patch). The patch itself even says "Minivelle" on it. My insurance charges $5.00 a month. YMMV

I am confused on how to tell what dose i have. I know im on all 3 hormones but i dont know how to read the amount. She said she was putting me on a low dose. Before surgery i had a chin hair growing i had to clip it every few days. Since i have been on hrt it hasnt grown back! Maybe that tells me im on a correct dose for my body! Haha! I had terrible night sweats before starting hrt and it immediately stopped that. I have a feeling my ovaries were not functioning properly for a while. They were in bad shape.
