Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 14-Jun 20,2021

Princesses to your Recovery Progress Report thread and the other side,

This is your thread for sharing with and caring for your kind sisters and caring for yourself. It will be as helpful as you make it. You can compare experiences, share progress, vent frustrations, ask questions and just generally find understanding.

I am your SunshineSister. I remember how good it felt to have my surgery over. I am here to say “you aren’t alone” and to share my personal experiences and the things I have learned other sisters. I had my dvTH/BSO with rectocele and cystocele repairs on 1/16/14 and had a slow but in complicated recovery.

Recovery is different for everyone and there is No Normal. We will have similarities to share. Initial recovery may take 6-12 weeks and full healing could be 1 year. You know your own body so please listen to it. Heed any warning and go slow.

Make sure your profile has the correct surgery type, this is helpful as some answers to questions depend on this. Also while you are editing, where you are in this wide world can be fun.

So some Sisterly advice:
-Be kind to yourself and listen to your body.
-Follow your Dr’s orders and limitations.
-Accept help from family and friends. You just had MAJOR SURGERY.
-Drink lots of water and eat healthy tummy friendly foods.
-Rest, Rest, Rest, and Rest
-walk a little each hour that you are awake (to the bathroom, to get a cup of tea or glass of water)

Feel free to ask questions about anything that comes up or if you just need a cyber (((hug))) ASK

This site has some great articles so explore while doing some of that resting. You could start at the top of the screen in grey letters. The big blue bar helps with info also, including Hysterectomy check points(I really learned and enjoyed this). It let me know what to expect as I progressed in my healing.

Don’t forget the post op forum to ask questions of sisters farther along in their recovery who might have had a similar issue. I will definitely let you know when this is a good idea.

So as you begin your healing remember you just had MAJOR SURGERY. You have ONE CHANCE to get this right. Listen to your body and take care of you. This is your main task for the next few weeks. We are here to help! See you when you are ready to post. You have my prayers and good thought for your recovery.

Lots of Gentle Hugs,
Anndy

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 14-Jun 20,2021

Just had my vaginal hysterectomy / Fallopian tube removal yesterday (6/14). Was supposed to go home last night, but between a late afternoon start time and my inability to wake up from anesthesia / pain control needs, I spent the night.
I’m still having a lot of cramping / bladder pain(?). How long does that typically last?

Sweeper933,

So good to have you check in to your Recovery Progress Report thread. Soon there will be more sister checking in as they have their surgeries this week. So you will have some others to compare your specific issues with.

Now about that cramping, it is so different for each one of us I really can’t give you a time line. It is most likely from swelling. If you are able, gentle walking can increase the circulation down there and help. You might also try icing many think that works well. Take a pad and soak it in water, freeze it, then wrap it in a thin soft cloth. This has been an ideal ice bag for many. Don’t be afraid to take the pain meds they gave you. If all goes well you will only need them for a short while. Sending lots of good thought and prayers your way.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 14-Jun 20,2021

Hello - I had my hysterectomy early Monday morning and went home that afternoon. Uterus, Fallopian tubes and cervix but kept both ovaries. I had cramping and really bad gas pains in my shoulders but that went away by Tuesday. I also had regular gas as well. I have vaginal pain that is extremely uncomfortable. I got dermaplast spray and tucks medicinal pads for that. I was doing better yesterday than today because I think I walked around too much. It’s hard to know what the right amount of getting up and walking around should be. I also tried to sit up rather than lay down all day but that was uncomfortable as well and I think I over did it. Day by day! It’s just hard to figure out what the right amount of anything is and what is normal.
Hanging in there!
Thank you!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 14-Jun 20,2021

KatJul,

Your progress is fairly normal. You will find this recovery is a bit of a and many times it is nothing you have done. The gentle walking is good, 5 min per hour when you are awake will help keep good circulation in the pelvic area. If you sit up straight instead of recline or lay straight it can put pressure in that area and increase swelling and pain. Another factor to consider is that after a few days the effect of surgical anesthesia wear off so you don’t feel as good. The best thing to do is slowly walk as I describe and recline when resting or lie down when sleeping. Keeping your feet up can be helpful also. Hope this info helps!

Sister Hug to you,
Anndy

I had my davinci surgery this morning. Everything went as well as can be expected. Doctor told my hubby there were adhesions in there that he thinks we’re causing some of the pain I was having. He took care of those. Surgery was at 7:30 am and I was headed home by 12:45. So thankful to be able to rest at home! I have some great helpers so I don’t have to do more than I should.

Ladies & jenn96,

So glad to have you on this side and sounds like you did great. Glad they were able to take care of those adhesions also. Now do take care to stay slow with just gentle walking, no bending or standing too long. The quieter you keep that lower ab until it is healed the less likely to form more adhesions. The walking will help with circulation to keep the swelling and inflammation down!

So Ladies all don’t forget to drink lots of water , rest with those feet up, sleep as much as your body needs and

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 14-Jun 20,2021

Hi sisters!

I had laparoscopic hyst yesterday including removal of tubes, cervix, appendectomy, vaginal suspension and they were planning on excision of endometriosis. She did not find any endometriosis, but she did find adenomyosis and feels this was the root on my pelvic pain.

It took me awhile to come off anesthesia and I had some trouble voiding initially, but was still able to go home the same day. I felt pretty good last night and most of today. My pain is increasing some this evening. I think it is gas pains. I have still not been able to pass gas or have a BM. I am waking, drinking plenty and taking gas-x.

Smitch26,

Glad to have you join the Recovery Progress Report thread and it sounds like you are doing well also. Keep taking good care of yourself and don’t worry about that 1st BM. I didn’t have mine until day 4 and many don’t until day 6. Remember you have had reduced intake the last few days. I did start taking stool softener right after surgery, so if your Dr suggested it please do. They can be really helpful to get your GI track moving again.

Gentle Sister Hugs coming your way,
Anndy
