Had the complete overhaul Tuesday, Sept 11. I feel great, and I know I am going to have to watch myself and not over do it. My DH has already fussed at me and is making sure I have everything I need. He has really stepped up to the plate on this one. I didn't want him to stay the night in the hospital, but boy was I glad he was there. My Morphine drip stopped working and the catheter backed up. He was right on it and had a nurse in the room in seconds.

It is great to be home in bed, but man these pain killers make you dream something fierce.

Home from the castle. This is no fairytale. I am doing ok but VERY sore. Laying in bed jotting this note. My back seems to hurt on both outer sides and I can not pee consistnatly and I am not emptying my bladder each time? I have not had to move bowels since Sat 9.9.07, I have stool softner and gas x but no results. My doctor has been less than informative and if not for this site, I would have had a lot of surprises and been completely unprepared for this. I am too tired and have a migraine, again.

Hi Everyone!
I'm so glad the surgery is over! I got home from the hospital yesterday and am doing well. The hospital stay was good. My wonderful DH stayed with me the first night. The nurses and my doctor were great to help me with any discomfort or problem that came along. One important lesson I learned was to not try and go without pain medicine. Hope to post more soon.

Thanks to everyone for all the support.

Hello all, 4 days out and things are going well.
My castle stay was not bad. I told my doctor and the anesthesiologist about my PBJ dream and the both got a good laugh. In recovery, the first thing my Doc did was ask me if I was ready for my sandwich!

My nurses were great - I had taken boxes of chocolate to them all and they all loved it! Monday afternoon I did have a little issue when they came in to remove my foley catheter. They had just given me morphine, so I was good and drugged up. They sent in a newbie (military hospital and she was BRAND new) to help me and she was pretty clueless. Didn't want to hold or help me walk at all, just carried the cath bag and walked off, going much faster than I was. I had to keep asking her to slow down because she was tugging at it and it wasn't out yet. OUCH!! Then once was in the bathroom, she said, "Oh hang on." and walked out of my room - left me just standing there alone wondering what what was going on. She came back abut 5 minutes later with another nurse who wasn't much better. The second nurse took out the catheter, handed me a bottle of warm water and walked out of the bathroom, shutting the door behind her - again I was all alone and totally unable to function on my own. No explanation of what I was supposed to do with it - a little frustrating to say the least. My friend Karen finally just kicked them out and took over. She was GREAT. I got back to bed ok, and slept for an hour until I was up to tinkle. Then every hour, on the hour - bathroom trip!

That night, one of the night nurses came in to take out my IV, but was going to leave in the IV cath since they still had meds to give me. It was on the top of my left hand and hadn't been any problem at all. She went to flush it out with saline and I about died. The first push and I was in so much pain I was screaming - felt like my veins were on fire and exploding. The poor nurse was absolutely moritified - just kept apologizing and saying that it was in and shouldn't be hurting at all. Finally, I must have convinced her that it actually WAS agonizing and she stopped messing with it. She left for a couple of minutes and then came back in and put a new IV line on my right forearm and removed the other one. She was so wonderful. Immediately gave me something for the pain and brought me an ice pack for my hand. Then sat with me, holding my (other) hand until I fell asleep. Peed regularly through the night. *sigh*

Doc came in the next morning and said all had gone well. My uterus was somewhat enlarged, about the size it would be if I was 2 mos. pregnant, and there was a little endo on the outside of it, but none anywhere else. My ovaries looked good (I got to see pics!) He offered to let me stay in another night if I wanted, and I said no thanks - I wanted to get some sleep! He gave me my release instructions and said I could go home after lunch. I immediately went to sleep and didn't wake up for 3 whole hours!! My DBF wouldn't allow them to make noise in the room or bother me. He is such a doll!! I woke up around 1:30, ate some, changed into my clothes and started the ride home. 3 hours later, I was in my own bed, all comfy.

Only took me to days for the BMs to start back up, but it is slow going - once or twice a day max but it is getting easier and more comfortable. I am having gas something fierce! It is so bad, it keeps scaring my cats!

My DBF stayed with me an extra day to make sure I was alright to be home on my own. He went to work today and I have done great. Even made the "big" trip down 3 floors to check my mail. Wheee! Today, my belly button incision is weeping a bit, but it doesn't seem to be hurting too badly, the area around it is still really sensitive.

I am just taking it easy, taking my meds on schedule, trying to remember to drink LOTS of water and walk around every few hours and NOT push myself.

You were all such a huge help, I knew EXACTLY what to take with me, and in one way or another used everything I took. Even right down to the little postcards in the Cosmo magazine - they came in handy on the way home, I strung them together with band-aids and made window shades for my side of the car!

Happy healing to all my Sept. 10th Sisters!!

Does anyone elses food taste better? I have been enjoying meals unlike ever before. DH says it is the pain meds, but maybe it is because I'm not having to cook it. I even woofed down the hospital food. I couldn't believe the words, "This is the best spinach I have ever eaten!" came out of my mouth the day after my surgery...Time for another pill. What ever shall I dream this time????
