CaJen and others,
I was first offered the Vivelle Dot patch from my ob/gyn because it has the lowest side effects and it is bioidential, but we decided to go with the pill form (same exact medicine) because it's cheaper and I'm in the poor house. It completely took away my hot flashes in two weeks.

I saw an endocrinologist today. He told me that estrogen is basically to remove or reduce hot flashes, nothing more. He questioned me about my lack of appetite, anxiety, insomnia and depression and looked over my history form and then asked me how much I was drinking. Then he spent about 45 minutes with me telling me that this is the culprit and needs to be addressed. I hate to admit it, but I do have a drinking problem and have struggled with it for years off and on. It got worse after I got layed off and then worse after surgery. Now it's time to get back to sobriety, but I will need help, so that is my homework and it's got to be soon. Beware of alcohol! Only you can decide if you are drinking too much or too often. I have been drinking every day, like 8 beers a day to numb my pain, but it wasn't working. I am talking about emotional pain. Maybe I should be on a diferent board now for help with that and of course get into some professional help.

I lost 12 pounds since surgery and brought down my cholesterol 80 points but all due to not eating. It's time to join life again. Wish me luck. I'm scared to say goodbye to my drinking buddies, etc. I just worry all the time about everything.

Good luck with everything, ladies. HUGS!

I just want to wish you all the best in stopping drinking. Drinking (or any other emotional crutch) is so hard to overcome when you have been through so much. You should be proud of yourself for knowing that you have a problem and want to overcome it! I know the ladies here will provide support, join other forums (more specific to drinking) as well as seek out help in your community! You can beat this!! Believe me, I understand about the constant worrying, that is something I also struggle with. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

You are doing the right thing! Your body will be healthier and your mind will be sharper! The Dr is right. I have never had dealings with AA but I do know the program Reformers Unanimous is a good program. They are usually held at churches. My husband is a Baptist pastor so I have had more dealings with that program. Get help!!!!! I am praying for you!

Thank you all for your encouragement, prayers and good wishes for me. I've stopped before and I know this will require a lot of changes to remain sober. I will get help in my community and I do believe in God. It's time I let him be in the driver's seat. I'm a terrible driver! I will do a search for that Reformers Unanimous and I might get back to AA. I also am going to make an appointment for counseling. I also have a friend who is a recovering alcoholic. Even though I have to say goodbye to a drinking friend, I can meet new sober friends that will be much better for me. Scared, yes, but my life depends on this.

How are all you ladies doing towards the begining of March 2008? I am making slow progress towards my full recovery and am by far not there yet.

I tire out easy and have begun a great waitressing job, so I am really on my feet ALLOT!

I have to have pelvic floor muscle retraining and still am not right in any department. I still also get an achky feeling (like prior to begining bleeding with a period) . I am moody (I think my horomones are off still)

I think about so many of you as you were my lifeline in those weeks following our surgeries. I miss you all and send hugs to everyone who virtualy held my hand last fall.

Thanks so much, I am doing fine. My hot flashes are not as bad but I still have them while wearing my Vivelle dot patch. I have been having aches too in my shoulder a lot since surgery, especially during the cold weather. I am finally losing weight, I started WW in December and I have probably lost about 20 lbs. I plan to lose about 30 more pounds. I think it just takes time for your body to heal. We have to remember that we are delicate flowers and we have to be careful with how we treat our bodies. 6 months to a year is how long it takes to recover fully so it's coming along fine. I'm not 100 % I still have some numb spots on my stomach and my incision is still a little tender in spots but overall I feel good. God bless you all for sharing and caring!

It's hard to belive that we are coming up on six months postop, but it will be on March 10 (for both of us). I went to physical therapy a few times and she taught me to do certain stretching exercises. I think I am a bit better. I no longer sting when I urinate, but there are some "hot spots" when the PT presses down on the left side of my lower abdomen, sort of near the groin area. I think it's caused from adhesions and that's a complicated issue because they can be surgically removed but they just grow back usually. there are so many nerves that are involved when surgery is performed and now that my abdomen is "waking up", I feel the internal tugging still a bit, which is why the stretching exercises are supposed to help. I can't find the right size exercise ball yet to lay over it.

Hang in there everyone. And I wish nothing but good thoughts for all of us.
