There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

:

Good morning and welcome to your Recovery Thread Princesses!
My name is Fluffy and I am your Sunshine Sister here to help you through these initial stages of recovery. So for the mean time, here is some advice to get you started...

take your medication on time, especially pain killer to stay on top of the pain.

make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

get plenty of rest! You just went through major surgery, let your friends and family take care of the house and kids if you have them.

make sure you are walking a little each time you get up to use the bathroom. This will help get your bowels moving and help prevent blood clots. I know it's going to hurt and be uncomfortable, but it's something you just have to make yourself do.

Remember, rest is your best friend right now, enjoy getting some good quality naps in and getting taken care of.

I can't wait to meet you all!

Hi there

I had my TLH yesterday. It seems like things are quite different here in Australia with regard to aftercare. I will be in hospital for another night at least before being discharged.

Feeling tired but pain is well managed so far with the hospital-grade drugs.

Recovering

My hysterectomy went well. Today I am home resting. Only issue I have is my bladder not emptying completely. I feel like it’s getting better every time. Nurses and dr’s were amazing. I have minimal pain just some soreness.

Came home this morning. Fell asleep straight away for a few hours. Definitely needed it. Had a couple of jabs to prevent clots and my thigh feels like lead. My daughter left me a gift. I burst into tears. Poor husband was taken by surprise.
Hope you are feeling ok and get/already home for some well deserved rest.

Hysterectomies Nov 02-Nov 08,2020

November 3 TAH wBSO. Took two hours to dissect out a huge fibroid and oversized uterus. I feel I have the mother of all period pain between meds and standing up is proving very stingy along the incision. But I have the sweetest gynaecologist and the nurses are great. Should go home on Friday then the real fun starts!

Good morning/ after noon Princesses!
Welcome home, you're on the first days to feeling so much better than you will believe.

Pain management was a major issue for me,the narcotics made me so sick and staying in the hospital didn't help. Here is some great help from the hystersisters on
Pain Management After Hysterectomy
. It was better at home in my bed, with my ice packs and just being comfortable.

How Long After Hysterectomy for a Bowel Movement
Please be patient with yourself on this one, it's not a competition and everyone is different. Make sure you keep drinking water, eating lots of fiber, and moving around when you can, even if it's shuffling to the potty. Also, a toilet stool aka squatty potty really does help.

Laxatives vs. Stool Softeners after Hysterectomy
This is really important so you or your person caring/helping you guys the correct thing at the drug store.

Make sure you take your pain and nausea meds on time, even if means setting an alarm at 230am. You don't want that getting out of control. And write it down! You are all doing fantastic!

Be kind to yourself, love your self, and you have the right to sleep and be grouchy.

Coming home from surgery post OP can be scary/frustrating, especially if this is your first surgery. Or even if it's not! I worried over every little thing. Here is a guide on

When to Call Your Doctor After Hysterectomy
. And if you are still having any doubts/concerns/worries, CALL YOUR DOCTOR .:
Have a restful, peaceful day.

Turned into a teary blubbing mess. I had sciatica before the op from a herniated disc earlier in the year and its still there with more venegence than before. My calf is the killer. That's more my issue then the operation area itself. And feel a bit weird in my head. Like vertigo.
Hope this all goes away soon.

Not used to being down and out.

For those of you who are through surgery , it's great to see you here! For those waiting, we can't wait to meet you.

One of my favorite resources here on hystersisters is the video channel. When you aren't feeling great, sometimes it is easier to get information that way. So, I want to introduce you to that.

Video Recovery Weeks 1-2
I highly recommend watching this video when you are up to it because it really helps actually hearing about these initial days instead of reading right now.

Catheters After Hysterectomy
if you were sent home with a bladder catheter, here is information for you.

I noticed some of you are having gas pain related discomfort, here is a related article...

CO2 Gas Relief Laparoscopy
has some good information for dealing with post op gas pain.

Remember to try and walk a little around the room each time you get up to use the bathroom, it will help with the gas pain and help get those bowels moving.

Remember to rest and let others take care of you!
