Anyone Having Surgery Due to Heavy, Prolonged Periods?

For the past year I have had heavy periods, prolonged spotting. I had a D&C in April and the Dr. told me if that didn't stop the spotting and periods then the next step would be a hysterectomy. Well, needless to say they didn't stop. I put it off over the summer so I would not mess up my summer. I went to 2 other Dr.s for their opinions and each Dr. had a different take. It turns out the fibroids were growing not shrinking. I had the ATH last Friday. It wasn't a piece of cake but not as bad as I had remembered my 2 c-sections. The jury is still out on if it was worth it yet or not. I will keep you posted.

Anyone Having Surgery Due to Heavy, Prolonged Periods?

I just had surgery on dec 3 for heavy, painful prolonged periods. I am still recovering but i am looking forward to getting my life back.
I have tried medicine etc but as soon as i went off the meds i went back to the nasty period.
It has been only a few days but i am not sorry at all. I had a vaginal hysterecomy, they were able to leave my ovaries and the recovery time is suppose to be shorter.

Anyone Having Surgery Due to Heavy, Prolonged Periods?

I had LAVH a few weeks ago, some good days, some not so good (blah). "Prolonged" sounds like such a nice word to describe the 3 - 6 month ( yes month) menses I was having. Not to mention the excruciating pain that came with them. I absolutely hate major tests or surgeries of any kind, so this decision was a BIGGIE. My loving hubby actually made the final call between ablation and hyster,(because I'm a wimp)and I am so glad he did. The pain after surgery was NOTHING compared to menses pain. Even the bleeding after was less than any cycle I have had before.
Everyone is different, but uninterested in sex has never crossed my mind. Actually, can't wait for the doc to clear me to do so.
I also found out, post-op, that having this procedure was the only absolute cure for the adenomyosis I was plaqued with.
You have to be comfortable with your decision, but you(as seen here) are definitely not alone.

Best of luck with your decision, and always a speedy recovery.

Anyone Having Surgery Due to Heavy, Prolonged Periods?

I had vaginal hyster. (kept my ovaries) on Nov.15 due to heavy periods, lot of clotting and cycles getting closer and closer together! It has only been 3 weeks now & I am still bleeding so I cannot say yet that this was worth it! I surely hope so. I have had some moments of regret these last 3 weeks, but I am told that it will be wonderful once I recover from the surgery.

Anyone Having Surgery Due to Heavy, Prolonged Periods?

My TAH is on 12/12, and I'm having it only because of my horrible periods. For the last 6 years, bleeding so heavy I've missed work, missed out on social engagements, missed out on too much! The doc has found absolutley no other problems with me, although I did have lots of benign cysts when I was 16, BC pills helped with that, and they disappeared. Not looking forward to 6 week recovery, but, what's 6 weeks compared to another (possibly) 10 years of this mess until I hit menopause?
