Inverted uterus, cervix quesiton

One of the reasons for my hysterectomy is that my uterus is inverted. So my cervix is tilted back as well. Has anyone else had this. I'm getting ready to schedule my surgery for the end of April. Can they reposition the cervix or is it best to have it taken out. Pros and Cons??

Inverted uterus, cervix quesiton

Hi there,

I had my hyster. on March 4 (LAVH) and one of the reasons was my uterus was severly retroverted or 'tilted', to the point that it was blocking my bowels and causing IBS. This, along with prolonged periods (usually 2-3 weeks with only 1 week in between), abnormal PAP tests for the last few years made my decision easy. Because I had a LAVH, the cervix was removed which didn't concern me too much because of the history of CIN3.., haven't resumed sex yet so not sure if having the cervix removed is going to make any difference. The risk of cancer far outweighed anything else.

Although I'm still in 'recovery mode', I can feel the difference already. I no longer have that constant lower back pain and feel like I finally have my life back.

Best of luck to you!

Glad you're doing well Kat. Thanx for the response. I never thought of my lower back pain as being caused by my uterus. I had a Pap smear at my doctors visit last Thursday so we'll see if that comes back ok. Of course I'm still sore though cause they have to poke and pull to reach my cervix. I just made this decision on Friday although I've been thinking about it for two years. Tried everything conservative first to no avail. I get to keep my ovaries, granted nothing is wrong with them. I've had ovarian cysts on the right side since I was 16. In 1994 they went in and cauterized the nerve to that side and I've been pain free from that ever since but they are still there.

My uterus was also retroverted. I had such severe back pain that I went to a neurologist. I has some disc problems, but he said my pain was out of proportion to the disc problems and sent me to a pain specialist. The pain specialist was able to help me with medications, so I didn't think any more about it. Since I had pain meds for my hyst, I didn't use the meds the pain doctor gave me, because I was afraid of taking too much. As I have gone down on the post-op meds I have noticed my back pain is almost completely gone. No wonder it was out of proportion to the spine problems. I wish they had sent me to the GYN then, it would have saved me a lot of pain.

I found it really strange when I found out that it was uterus that was causing most of my back pain. When you think that a typical uterus is the size of a plum, its hard to timagine that that little thing could cause so much havoc elsewhere! I have also noticed that, besides gas pains from surgery, it is easier to go to the bathroom (okay, its easier to poop) now that it was before.

I kept both ovaries and feel better than I have in a VERY long time!!!! Good luck to you!
