Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

Hi there, My date is now October 21 and I am considering keeping my cervix. I am for sure keeping one ovary (if it's healthy). I absolutely do not want to bleed. Any personal experiences regarding keeping the cervix and having mini periods. I do not want them periods. I don't want to go through the surgery to still be plagued with them. Just me and my opinion. thanks in advance. So it'll either be TAH, or SAH if I've got this right.

Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

I've decided to do the subtotal, just from the research that I've done and my own person decision. I don't think everyone who keeps the cervix has "mini-periods". Every body is different, so it's hard to tell what it'll do. I like the thought of it still being there.

Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

Hello there. I had a SAH on June 17th. I was also concerned about the possibility of mini-periods. I asked my doctor to cauterize the cervix during the SAH, with hopes that this would reduce my possibility of having those mini-periods. The only amount of bleeding that I had was directly after my SAH. So far, I've not had a period since June 17th and I kept both of my ovaries. Ask your doctor about the possibility of cauterizing your cervix. It is my understanding that even with cauterization, there is a chance that mini-periods will still occur, but I think it is something like a 15 percent chance, or so. In my case, I told my doctor that if the mini-periods were similar to light spotting, that I could deal with that, I just didn't want to have those horrible painful flooding periods. Anyways good luck to you both and hopefully in the next few weeks, you'll be free of those periods and well on your way to feeling great!

Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

Hi Nanno,

I had my LSH 18 months ago and I kept my cervix. I had my cervix cauterized during my hyst, as White Rose mentioned. I have not had a mini-period in post-op. I just had post-op spotting after surgery for about 10 days.

Best wishes,

Mary

Thank you, I'm appreciating the advice and please excuse my grammar I was trying to say I don't want THE periods.

Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

I'm glad that I kept my cervix so far. My doctor said that I had great support post-op. She had a hysterectomy a few years back and she said that in hindsight, she wishes that she had kept hers.

I said keep it, but I might change my mind, I'll tell you what I'm one of those women who would be truly annoyed by bleeding of any kind post op. I've got 2 weeks to mull it over. I know I should be smart like you; Ccrump, but I'm weak. I sincerely do not want to bleed

Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

Thought I would throw in my two cents here...I had a SAH 6 months ago and I do not get mini periods. My surgeon cauterized the cervical stump to prevent a mini period.

Wanted to mention that the SAH is a simpler surgery than a TAH. No vaginal cuff to make and no vaginal tissues to heal. According to my GYN, there is also generally less post op pain with a SAH due to the above.

Weigh all of the pros and cons of keeping the cervix. Insist on being tested for HPV. I am sure you will make the best decision for yourself.

Anyone Keep Your Cervix?

I didn't have a choice in surgeries....I'm having a tvh....the cervix goes too . I don't mind, I definitely don't want even a mini period ever again. Some women have them still and some don't. On the other hand....I can't say that I like the sound of "vaginal cuff" either.
