cervix and progesterone question

Just curious, if the cervix is part of the uterus, why isn't progesterone needed after the cervix is left in place? Or is it? I'm having everything out but the cervix and my doctor gave me an rx for Climara, it didn't even dawn on me to ask about this. I was really on the fence about keeping my cervix, even leaning towards having it removed, but after talking about it at my pre-op, I've decided she can stay.

Re: cervix and progesterone question

Progesterone is needed with a uterus because estrogen only leads to endometrial hyperplasia and cancer. The endometrial part of the uterus should have been removed when the cervix was left. So endometrial cancer wouldn't be a concern anymore. I hope your recovery goes well.

thanks.

I'm looking forward to getting off this roller coaster of "pre-op". I get completely stressed one moment, almost enter into panic mode and totally calm the next.
