Upcoming hysterectomy date 10/30

Good Morning Sisters,
I'm new here and just wanted to drop in and make a post. I'm 47 and my surgery is scheduled for the 30th. Right now I'm more excited than nervous about having the surgery. That may change the day of but hopefully not.

I've had fibroids for years and just dealt with them. I've been on birth control and even an IUD to help with the bleeding but this past year it has been worse. What caused me to decide to go ahead and do as my doctor suggested was a 3 week period that I had last month.

My only concern is my blood pressure. I have white coat syndrome. And my bp spikes when I go to the doctor. When normally it is low. I'm afraid it will be so high that they will not want to do my surgery.

Does anyone else deal with this. If so, how do you handle it.

Good luck ladies. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Xoxo

Upcoming hysterectomy date 10/30

I'm prone to anxiety myself, which can raise blood pressure. One thing that has really worked for me is taking a few deep breaths before having anything done, which shuts off the usual Fight Or Flight response, and engages the parasympathetic nervous system, almost instantly slowing down your cardiovascular system; when you do this, make sure your belly rises with each breath, to ensure optimal air exchange. Also, in the days before you go to the hospital, be sure to limit your sodium intake to 1,500 mg per day, avoid stimulants - which for me includes caffeine and food dyes - and increase your intake of potassium and magnesium; my favourite potassium superstar is bananas, and my favourite magnesium superstar is dark chocolate. Another excellent way to take white coat syndrome out of the equation is to monitor your blood pressure at home, then share your readings with your surgical team, so they can be assured that it's not a chronic issue. Wishing you all the best for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!
