I am seeing more & more people having problems because of the video games. Let me guess? World of Warcraft? I hope that he can take the time to help you. Any game will still be there but you should be the main priority right now. I wish you the best.

Re: Post-op concerns ~ can anyone help me?

Linda,

I live alone so I was worried about how things would go after surgery. My parents graciously offered to come west and take care of me for two weeks. I would say that is the minimum I needed - I got off the narcotics on Monday and started driving on Tuesday, and they left Wednesday (yes, of this week!)

I was lucky enough to have my procedure done entirely laparoscopically so I don't have a huge incision. I do have an infection in one incision of the four, but it's only 1-1/2 inches long (about three cm) and was only open partially through the skin layers, not deeper.

As for the catheter - make sure everyone from the admitting staff to the people who wheel you into the O.R. know that you are allergic to latex. Make sure you have an allergy band on before they even start an IV line. That way you have taken every step you can to prevent them from putting latex anything into, or on you.

This is extremely important for anyone who has serious allergies. I'm sure you this already, but it bears repeating for anyone else who is reading this thread and has allergies of any kind. Sometimes there are cross-sensitivities, such between penicillins and cephalosporins (i.e. Keflex).

Best wishes and don't worry too much. The surgeon will not do anything s/he doesn't need to do. A suprapubic catheter is an additional invasive procedure so a non-latex Foley will hopefully do the job!

Re: Post-op concerns ~ can anyone help me?

Dear Bandimal,

Thanks for the advice. I have already printed out copies of my medical history and all of my known allergies and distributed it to all my doctors as well as given my husband a copy. I told him make sure you keep ths with you and please speak up for me if I can't.

I do wear a medical alert bracelet but latex is not written on it. Too many allergies to list. Latex was recently added to my list of about 10 medications not to mention insect and food allergies. Maybe I will write that on myself with red scripto marker in bold print like I did with my husband for knee surgery (one knee said right knee the other said wrong knee). The medical staff chuckled but he had the correct knee worked on.

Thanks for the advice.

Linda
