Dealing with people walking on eggshells
Hi ladies,
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me. My husband and I live out of state and we'll be traveling back home tomorrow (this will be the first time I see everyone after telling them that I need the hysterectomy). My sweet sister-in-law has already given me a heads-up about my step-mother-in-law telling everyone not to contact me because I'm still really upset about the news--I never said anything like that to her, just initially to have the others e-mail me (I didn't want to create drama if they said something that made me teary right after finding out I needed the surgery)! What do I do? I'm sure she was well-meaning, but I cringe to think how all of my husband's step-siblings will act as they all have small children and babies of their own (we don't have any children).
Sorry for the long post, but I just found this out this morning! Any advice you could give would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
Selene

Hi Selene!
I would call and talk to both your SIL and MIL. Explain to them that you have made peace with your decision and that you don't want your relatives to feel that you will be uncomfortable having their kids there. Ask them to relay your message to the other relatives prior to your and DH's visit.
Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Hi Selene!
I agree with Elizabeth. That seems to be the best way to handle it.
My oldest sister did a similar thing to me after a previous surgery. Her motive appeared to be to have all contact from my other sisters through her. I found this out by calling one of my other sisters and asking why no one other than the oldest one had even bothered to call.
Have a really great trip.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Sometimes people just don't know what to say so they avoid the topic. Just let them know that you are ok with it & they should be reassured that you are ok. Best wishes to you!

Thanks ladies. I'll try giving them a call and see if I can't get it sorted that way. I'll let you know how the trip goes. Take care and thanks again for the advice!
