Yes, you ARE too young...

Too young to spend your life tied to a bathroom.
Too young to feel so old and tired from lack of iron.
Too young to endure such extreme pain.
Too young to have to listen to her comments.

Too young to have to make this decision.

"But you're SOOOO young" =(

I'm probably older than you - 40 - but don't consider myself old. I recently had a tah/bso (4 weeks ago). I am not having any of the surgical menopause problems and feel a little calmer if anything. It's been a great recovery - I think being younger and in good shape helps.

A lot of people keep asking me why I did it. I think there is just so much education available to people now to avoid hysterectomy that a lot of people don't realize that there are still situations that justify it. I'm sure you have done your share of agonizing about your decision and weighing the decision to have good reasons to be doing it. Realize that there was once a time where women were told to have a hysterectomy for just about any reason, including sterilization. I answer the unknowledgeable that while we are lucky that we live in a day and age where there are often other alternatives to hysterectomy, that in my situation that was not the case and after carefully weighing my options, I decided that it was the best solution to my problems.

I know how you feel hun. I'm 26. And I got that from family. But hon, you are soo young. And I said that's my point exactly.

I like cyster Ter's poem.

but there's a line missing....IMHO

Too young to not enjoy life to it's fullest. <----------- THE BIG REASON I had my surgery.

Hi Julie,
Sorry she planted some seeds of doubt in your mind with reguards to the surgery. We work so hard to prepare ourselves mentally for this surgery.This surgery is hard enough on us mentally & emotionally, we get words of advice from well meaning people as to the proper age for the surgery . {{{ HUGGS}}}
I have heard the same nonsense too, but in my case, my family adds " Are you sure you don't want to try to have a baby first? And did you get a second opinion, like getting a second opinion with another doctor will make my fibroids disappear. Maybe after you have your baby you can have the surgery", oh and course I have heard numerous times "you are so young" ( I am 39). Lately I have been wondering what EXACTLY IS the right age, ya know the one where a person isn't " so young". I have to keep a sense of humor about this or I'd probably kill someone or scream real LOUD!
I have already made & accept the decision that I will never have a biological baby, and it hurts in the back of my mind even though I saw out loud... it is ok I don't have kids. And I am one of the very lucky ones, I have a wonderful man sticking beside me through all of this insanity...
All I can say is ( and I know this is hard to do ) ignore them, well meaning people don't realize how insensitive they can be... Hope you have an easy surgery & recovery...

Sometimes I wish it were OK to just dope-slap people. (Is there a :dopeslap" icon?) I would have had trouble refraining from major sarcasm... "Gee, you're right... I never thought of that! I should go on having pain, heavy bleeding, and all these other problems that stop me from enjoying my young life and endanger my health, and then when I'm old and tired, if I live that long, *then* I should have it taken care of. Silly me - I didn't consider that option!" Rrrrr.

Talk to every old lady you can find who has had a hyst. I've talked to dozens, both before and after my hyst (somehow conversation just seems to get around to that... like when I mention this site...), and without exception they say things like "Oh honey, you'll feel so much better!", "It's the best thing I ever did for myself." "I feel like a whole new person." "I wish I had it done sooner." Old ladies are cool. They aren't shy, either, and most will talk freely about their experiences. And almost all the ones I can think of offhand are fit, healthy, slender... yeah, they look old (they *are* old), but radiant and attractive. One last Saturday (about 70?) was telling me about going jogging with her daughter! Another (about 65?) was been a Scout leader, and took kids on backcountry pack trips. I think they are this way because the *can* be, because for years they've been freed up from their problems, and have been able to participate and be active as much as they want to.

(((((Julie)))))

Trust your decision. I am 33 and had that same response from a few people. Comes a time when enough is enough, the pain is not worth living with anymore. I have talked to lots of women who say they have more energy than before their hyst, and it was the best thing they ever did. Hang in there!!! Just ignore them.
