Water

OK, I know that water is good for you and I drink about a half gallon a day just because I like it.

WHY is it so integral to healing? Walking and Water.

Can someone explain the relationship?

Sorry for the dumb question, just wondering.

Thanks. T

Walking is good after surgery so you don't develop any blood clots. Water helps with the pee issues after surgery. Plus you don't want to get dehydrated.

So the reason everyone pushes water is because the surgery often upsets other organs due to movement, etc, and the catheter may also cause uriantion problems? And, walking helps keep the blood flowing.

I know the health benefits of both, I just wasn't sure why they were pushed as they are. Thanks, that makes it clear.

No question is ever silly or stupid...though I always think the same when I am the one asking! Rest assured, there will almost always be someone else out there wondering the same thing.

Just remember that we are all different and you may not have any problems in those areas! Once I was free of my catheter the morning I was let go, I never got back into that bed. I sat up alot and walked alot. Good luck to you!

Thanks. I am forming my "battle plan". We are three weeks (almost) away from regaining control of the S.S. Tammy.

Water

Water intake is real important. It can help you lose some weight and keep it off. It flushes your system of bad things. Keeps the kidneys functioning healthier. Weight Watchers push the water thing also, drinking a lot of water daily is good for you, keeps your skin looking good also. I drink a lot of water myself. Needing to stop drinking later in the evening these days though, finding my bladder is not handling it all night anymore, getting up too many times through the night to go to the restroom! Water over soda - anyday!

Water

I stopped drinking Mtn Dew in December (4 cans a day habit) I drink almost exclusively water, some iced tea with lemon, and if I am in the mood for carbonation, I have a diet coke. I have lost already with just the cessation of Mtn Dew 6 lbs- no other real dietary changes. Water is an amazing wonderful substance.

Water

Hi,

In addition to helping prevent blood clots by walking and drinking water to help with urination issues, walking and drinking plenty of water after surgery also helps with gas and constipation. After my surgery, I found that the more I walked and drank, the better I felt. My doctor told me that drinking water would also help flush my system of the anesthesia and meds.

Great benefits to doing both! But remember that after surgery, you need to take short slow walks! Don't rush yourself.

Water

I thought I would just tack this on here instead of starting a new thread.

What can I drink other than water? I have never liked water and if I drink it straight it upsets my stomach and I throw it up. Will juice work just as well? Thanks in advance for any tips.
