I still feel crazy.

After years of terrible period cramps, ablation therapy, and 3 VERY painful months, I finally have a diagnosis of endometriosis. I'm scheduled for a full hysterectomy this Thursday. The last few days for me have been relatively pain free, and whenever I have pain free days, I feel like I'm crazy, and that this is all in my head. I know for a fact that it's not, but the feeling is still there.
Is there anyone else going through this? Is it common after diagnosis?

Re: I still feel crazy.

I can relate. I went to the doctor, thinking I had low iron, only to discover I was severely anemic. My blood count was 3.9! Turns out I had a fibroid, so after discussing things with my Ob/Gyn and then an Oncology Ob/Gyn, decided on a total hysterectomy. I was told without, I would most likely need blood transfusions twice a year. After my initial visit, I had a blood transfusion and felt fine. I was hesitant to do the hysterectomy. I felt good, just started working for myself and really couldn't afford the time off. Discussed things with my husband and we decided to go ahead now, before I felt bad again. Hysterectomy was 2/25. I'm now 11 days post op. Last week was brutal. I was in pain and completely regretted my choice. I had felt fine, then I felt so horribly bad. Add in the financial cost and loss from being out of work, and I just was unhappy. But...I feel better now. Not 100%. But making improvement. I'm still stuck at home. I still have pain, though it is mild and under control. But the best part is, I know I will get better and stay that way. No more anemia. No more feeling like I'm going to pass out from grocery shopping. No more not playing with my kiddos. No more periods.

This is a major surgery. And a personal decision. But, you must consider how you feel at your worst when deciding things. I recommend it. Just know it does take recovery time. You may feel better immediately, many women do. Or you may have a rough recovery, as I did and so do others. But the recovery gets better. I'm still in that recovery phase, and now, I am glad I went through with it. For my health and my future will be better.

Re: I still feel crazy.

How were you diagnosed? Did the doctor do a laparoscopy? How extensive is the endometriosis? I ask these questions because if you think of the details, then it may help you to envision what is happening and accept what is going on.

Re: I still feel crazy.

Hi LauraRene to HysterSisters!

(((Elsie 1122))) has good points which you should consider.

Also know that a hysterectomy does not cure endo, nor does removing your ovaries. You will need an expert to remove the disease. Here are articles that discusses this:
Can Endometriosis Return after a Hysterectomy?
Should I Keep My Ovaries or Not if I Have Endometriosis?

We have a large library of Endometriosis Articles that may provide further information to you, and we also have an endo forum.

Re: I still feel crazy.

It took me much longer to get diagnosed with endo so I had plenty of time to construct the idea that I was crazy and that the pain was all in my head. It was rather hard to avoid coming to this conclusion between having some "normal" or "pain free" days and being told by multiple doctors that I was perfectly normal and healthy! Even after getting diagnosed with endo and pelvic congestion syndrome, I still had a lot of self-doubt and felt a bit crazy whenever I had a relatively normal day. So I think it's a pretty common feeling to have, particularly just before surgery. Best of luck with your surgery--I had mine back in December and I've never doubted my decision to have it done.
