new member- pre-op jitters
Hi,
I'm 1keeper and scheduled to have a 8 cm mass removed on Wednesday. I'm 48 years young and in great shape except for this little surprise. I started menopause in 2001 and went through the ordeal without taking HRT...I haven't had a period since 2002. My stomach started to bloat a bit, so I just increased my workouts. Then I started having trouble going to the bathroom, so off to the GYN I went. After pelvic and Cat scans, they don't know what it is, only that it is. I'm on pins and needles waiting, feeling really badly and taking pain pills. My precious dr. sent me to another hospital one hour away to a specialist...just to be safe...I would love to hear from someone who has been down this road before. Thanks

Sorry Keeper.. The only experience I had with a mass was a mass of scar tissue that had endo inside of it.. it was the size of a large egg. It caused me sooo much pain and the Dr's couldn't figure out what it was from the scans hehe.. until they went in. The surgeon was amazed as he was a general surgeon and had never seen anything like it in his life.. (also the massive amount of scar tissue i had inside as well he wasn't trained to touch he said).
I hope that they figure out what it is.. and that it isn't anything serious!!! I'm sending lots of love and soothing vibes your way

new member- pre-op jitters
i too am going both ways in regards to jitters. i'm sure we all are. the nervous part is a perhaps a product of the fear of the unknown. we are human after all! but the other part, which can calm i think, is actively seeking to find the answers/solutions, having some control over this by doing something about it. the findings might be a simple out and it's over, or maybe something else more ...not great, but, now we know and have something known and tangible to work on and to getting it fixed. thinking good positive progressive thoughts helps too ...i understand this because i am normally a terminal complainer!
a little off topic, but something i can relate this to... i am an earthquake phobic! been thru plenty of them in my life living in so.california. i don't like them one bit! basically most things in my personal life have been safe and "normal," but earthquakes are way beyond anybody's control. i got overwhelmed being consumed by the "what-ifs" instead of the "what-is." it has taken a long time, but i have spent a lot of time reading up on earth sciences and what makes the really makes world tick. there is nothing you can do to prevent or control an earthquake from happening, but there are plenty of things one can do to prepare and make your space a safer one ...you have total control over this! the point here is that i still hate earthquakes, but i realize that the chances (per/capita) of me loosing my life in one is pretty darn small! my survival will be even better because i have prepared a kit (somewhat) for the inevitability of it happening someday. putting some of my control over this future unknown situation means i can focus on other stuff and i don't have to be jittery all the time. i also became a cert (community emergency response training) member, so i learned to help myself first, then i can be of greater good and be able to help others.
does this kind of relate? my big apologies if not! i know apples and oranges can not be compared, but i feel there are similarities in the lessons learned. i am sure i am not telling anybody here anything new!
best to you! -terri

new member- pre-op jitters
Hi 1keeper. I have had a similar experience. In 1998, I finally made it to a doc after about a year of pelvic pain & sex was too painful to even try. It felt like I was lying on a softball when I laid face down. Went to planned parenthood, she said she thought it is a fibroid. Went to a real doc who gave me an ultrasound right then. He told me that my right ovary was very enlarged &needed to be removed immediately. Then he proceeded to tell me I better prepare myself to have a radical hysterectomy while he was in there if he felt it necessary. I scheduled surgery for 6 days later. I was 29 with no kids & so I freaked out for those 6 days. Fortunately,it turned out to be a fibroid, like planned parenthood thought. My ovaries were both perfectly healthy & he left everything in except the fibroid. Now here I am 7 1/2 years later & having a hyst in 10 days. It sounds like you may have a fibroid, but of course I'm not a doctor. It's very scary leading up to the surgery. Try to look on the bright side, that when you wake up from surgery you will know what that mass was & it will be gone. They can NEVER tell for certain what's in there until they go in. Best of luck to you. Hugs & prayers.

Thanks itstime, Terri and Kammy :)
Hi gals:
Appreciate your response. Tomorrow I drink the gyn-drano at noon and camp around the loo to detox my body for surgery on Wednesday. I'm praying for the best, this just so *****! I made it through the big-M without taking hrts and do everything right to take care of myself and this just bites...did I mention DH and I had to cancel a quickie 4-day cruise...boohoo! Oh well, looking for the bright side, when I awake, it will be gone and I'll be able to go potty without feeling like I'm passing a 12# turkey...
itstime: Chin up dear one...on the funny side (which is what gets me by), did they put a zipper in 10 years ago? Would definitely make for a less invasive entry! My prayers and hugs back to you for your upcoming surgery...all the best from me to you.
Terri: yes the analogy does help. You have identified my need to be a control freak...however, being a believer in Jesus I am daily reminded that I am not in charge, no matter how much I want to be...so this has helped bring my blood pressure down when it starts to skyrocket...
Kammy: thanks for your encouraging words..and good vibrations!
