Surgery has been scheduled

Ok so I have my surgery date Wednesday July 14th.

I read an article about medical mistakes being higher in the month of July (Wonderful!). I have so much to look forward to.

I'm having a supracervical laprascopic hysterectomy with (drum roll please)........sacrocolpopexy, A/P repairs, and a TVT. Apparently my uterus has falling and it won't get up. Not to mention it is taken my bladder, urethra, and rectum with it. They are only taken out part of my uterus, and leaving everything else, so I guess I should be happy about that.

I can't seem to shake the feeling that I will not be the same after this surgery. I have had to deal with backache and cramping for a number of years, but thought it was mostly PMS. It wasn't until my last child 2 years ago that the prolapse was starting to affect my everyday life ( pain when sitting, walking, standing, dizziness, heaviness, incontinence, and so much more).

Now I'm completely numb in my vagina......completely..... numb. Sex is a real bummer because of this for my husband and I. I can't feel a thing, and climaxing is very difficult. I bleed after sex and I don't know if it is the prolapses, the dryness, or a combo of the 2? Did I mention the pain after sex...OHHHH the throbbing pulsating pain. I have to take 4 advils before and after, and that sometimes doesn't help. Gosh I sound like a mess!

Mu husband is very supportive and understanding. He's been great through all this. I just want to be close to the woman physically he married before the babies were born (4 to be exact). Is this to much much to ask for?

I'm afraid of the outcome and I wish there was someone who has had a similar condition to mine. I'd like to here everything. The good the bad and the ugly. I have read everything on this site, from the checkpoints to the many many stories, which some were good and some not so good.

Will I be able to run and exercise again?

Will I have feeling in my vagina again?

Are you still in pain after the surgery ( backaches, cramping, dragging sensation)

I will definitely keep everyone posted on the before and most certainly the after. If you have any experiences you'd like to share, I'm all ears

Thanks for listening,
Gigi the rambler

Re: Surgery has been scheduled

The reason that July has more medical 'mistakes' is because in teaching hospitals the new interns start on July 1st. These interns have less experience and therefore a higher percentage of error. If you are not going to a teaching hospital (usually attached to a university, but not always) and have your usual doctor operating then you will not have a higher chance of a problem.
Take your time recuperating! It does get better but don't be impatient. This site has some great info but do realize that women without problems don't post as often as those with complications.

Re: Surgery has been scheduled

Now that I think about, I shouldn't have a problem since it is not a teaching hospital. I did read that errors were caused be new interns. Thanks for the info.

I know it's going to take time, but it is scary going into the unknown. I mean not knowing what difficulties I might encounter. I definitely know how to be patient. I have been suffering all together for 10 years. It has just gotten to the point were I can not bare it anymore.

I wish more women would post their positive outcomes. It would give me a little piece of mind.

Thanks,
Gigi
