scared to death

Hi Ladies,
Thank God I found this site and its wonderful support. I have been on an emotional roller coaster since Dec. 31 when I was told that my swollen abdomen was because of an ovarian cyst, a complex one at that! The u/s showed it as 9.5cm by 12cm. I am 55 and in menopause as of the end of this month, so I know what that could mean. My gyn has scheduled surgery for the 19th, and my pre-op is next Wed. She called this a.m. to tell me that the oncologist's office will be calling me to set up an appointment also. She told me that the CA-125 was normal, there is no ascites, and that the left ovary is also normal, all good things. One minute I feel sure that everything will be fine; the next I feel doomed. I have two beautiful daughters and a loving, supportive spouse. The waiting is really the pits!!

scared to death

Hi there!

I can truly relate to your situation. I had my hyst because of an ovarian/adnexal mass about the same size as yours, only they never did call it a cyst, just kept calling it a "mass" and a "tumor"

I know the feeling. I'm very sorry you are going through this. I know I was a basket case for the [mere] week I had to ready myself for my surgery! Just the fact that my doctor put such a rush on it scared me senseless!

After my surgery, the doctor said that the tumor was "ugly" (How dare he??? and "atypical") and then it took 4 weeks for them to fly the specimen all over the country to get opinions about whether there was cancer. So basically I was on the edge of my seat on top of coping with recuperation/recovery from surgery, waiting to hear what the pathology labs would come up with. I share this with you so you might be prepared for a wait like that, too. (I had initially been told that I would know the results of pathology by the time I woke from surgery that day) It turned out precancer with no other evidence of such left inside me...

Just know you are not alone, sweetie. I hope you have a smooth hyst experience and all good news!

I am 52 and having surgery on the 20th of Jan.When I first found out, I had to have surgery due to a prolapsed uterus, I was really scared. I was afraid I would'nt make it thru surgery and if I did something would happen afterwards. I was panicking to say the least. I was so full of fear. I would talk to everyone and it would help some, but I still couldn't feel the inner peace I needed. I would go up for prayer at church and talk to all the women, I know that had a hysterectomy and all of it would help, but I still didn't feel true peace. Then I started praying more and trusting the Lord to give me the peace I needed. I am also reading scriptures of God's promises to us that he will never leave us nor forsake us and that he is the great physician, so that tells me that he will go in the operating room with me and he will be the one guiding the surgeon's hands. I am realizing the more I pray and the more I read His Word and the more I give my trust to Him the more calm I become. And now I can truly say that I am not panicking over this surgery. I still have thoughts coming against me, but I know the Lord has full control and I refuse to believe any different. I truly hope this helps you and if you need to talk more, feel free to email me.
God Bless and keep you in peace. Linda

My case is quite similar to yours.

I am 54 and had been suffering from huge fibroids for years and then 2 and 1/2 years ago I started having episodes of terrible abdominal pains which caused me to be admitted twice as an emergency. The doctors finally found out that I had a bleeding cyst and I was advised to have a TAH/BSO since my c125 was slightly above normal. I then had to wait a week to see the oncologist and then 2 weeks for surgery.

I had my surgery on 4th dec. and will have the definite results on 21 Jan, but my surgeon did say after surgery that although the cyst was hard (which I presume is bad) he did not find any sign of cancer, so that even if the cyst was cancerous, the cancer has now been taken out. I hope! I just can't bear the wait.

Before surgery I had a long talk with a specialist nurse who did say that even when cancer is present, there is a lot of things that can be done.

My heart goes out to you and I wish good news for you at the end of the experience. Courage, you are not alone.

Love
Nicole
