Thanks for the info

This web site has provided me with so much information that I impressed my doc when we met yesterday to discuss my options. He had given me the choice of ablation or a hysterectomy. I have some medical background, but this web site gave me so much information, in terms that I understood, that he knew that I had researched my options enough as to not try to swing me one way or the other. My TVH is set for July 22nd and I am nervous, but ready for it. I am tired of having AuntFlo everytime I turn around and having to lay in bed with such pain, that I can't see straight. From what the doctor says, I will be out of commission for about a week, then pretty much back to normal except for lifting. Well, thanks again for letting me go on, and THANK YOU for such a great web site.

I think you have made the right choice! I had ablation 5 years ago and feel it was a waste of time and money. It never relieved my of any of my symptoms. My hysterectomy had been the "answer" to all my female problems. Glad I did it and would do it over in a heartbeat. Good luck with your TVH - are you having a spinal or general? (I had great success with a spinal... no dopey feeling afterward and the pain meds last 24 hours.)

Thanks for the info

Beams,

I am not sure what I am having, I kind of assumed that I would be going under general. I am not sure, but will they tell me this information during my pre-op visit to the castle? I will be going there 2 days before my surgery. I know that this is the right choice for me. I feel that my fibroids would wind up coming back, and also our insurance is changing at the end of the year, where I would have to pay for some of the surgery, so for me, all signs pointed to getting it done and over with. If I was younger and wanted more children (I am 37 and have 3 kids), I would do the ablation, but I closed up shop after my last child and things have progressively gotten worse for me. So what is a girl to do, but have the surgery and give the last of my pads to someone else who needs them.

I had fibroids too - one was the size of a softball (sure feels good to have them removed... no more pressure)! At you pre-op your DR will (or should) give you the options. My Dr. wanted me to have a spinal because of the long lasting pain meds in it. They last up to 24 hours after surgery.
Hope this helps with your decision.
