How accurate are ultrasounds/hysterosonograms?

I was just reading in one of the replies to a current post that someone ended up having to get a hyst because of several fibroids on the outside of her uterus that they hadn't known about before.

Anyone else had an experience where you had ultrasound, MRI, and/or hysterosonogram, and ended up discovering fibroids that did not show up on those reports?

Thanks.

I have not had fibroids. And to the best of my knowledge, I have never been diagnosed, during surgery, of anything that was not on an ultrasound or CT scan that we did not expect. We expected the endometriosis and adhesions but they do not show up on most, if any, tests.

Different tests have different accuracy rates and some of it does depend on the tissue involved. Some types of tissue just doesn't show up on tests such as the endometrisos and adhesions.

I wish you all the best as you continue to evaluate your situation and your pros and cons so you can do what is best for you!

How accurate are ultrasounds/hysterosonograms?

Hi,

Its going to be a year for me this May 31...yeppy

Anyways yes I would come on this sight telling everyone about my 3 fibroids that were large. After my surgery I was given pictures of my beautiful uterus.......or what was left of it. It was full of fibroids!! I was pretty surprised to say the least.....
