Endometrial biopsy before hysterectomy (4/16)

EMB was way more painful then I expected it to be. I knew it was going to be uncomfortable but wow it brought tears to my eyes.

Dear LPizza,

Oh so sorry you are in such pain - I remember some of the pre tests were so painful. I took over the counter pain reliever and rested in bed with my feet up. I also needed the heating pain for pelvic pain - ouch!

Hopefully you can relax a bit today and distract yourself with a good movie, book, time with friends - whatever helps you feel mentally and physically better .

Yes that test was the worst. My doctor told me it would feel "crampy". What a joke. I cried from pain and nearly passed out afterwards.

Good news, you will be asleep during the hysterectomy. Good luck with recovery. You got this!

The TAH-BSO operation and everything after was “uncomfortable” to me. That crazy biopsy and also the sono ultrasound test....both those were “painful”.

Thank you! My doctor gave me a cool rag after, it was awful.

I hear you - I was told it was a piece of cake beforehand, and when she was doing it she said, "this may hurt a bit"...um ya, a felt like I was going to pass out. If they would just be honest and upfront, instead of treating me like...lalala...it would have helped. I do remember one I had years ago though...right in the middle of it, a male student walks in...and they all giggled that "oh, you don't mind if he watches do you"...omg, can it get any worse? I've been so dissapointed in the medical profession of late, that I have extreme surgery anxiety. Hopefully they will prove me wrong on my TLH. I can only hope!

Don’t think a man could take that pain in an office visit procedure......I’m sure they get some kind of pain reducer when they get their prostate looked at......

They had medical students (all male) watch my hysteroscopy. That was traumatic enough. Can't imagine if they tried for the hysterectomy. I think I would have lost it.

For sure....I’ve always been asked beforehand if I mind a student there. I do mind, I’m there to see my doctor as I need to see her. Also for any procedure, whether it be an ultrasound, a test, up to and including the hysterectomy, I make sure that my doctor is doing it, not a student learning on me. Sorry, can’t take the chance that a student slips up and I pay for the rest of my life. I got a copy of my op report after that shows exactly what was done, how it was done and most important...who did what.....
