Low back pain possibly from cyst and did it go away after surgery?

I think I read sometime ago that some of you have starting having alot of low back pain after your hysterectomy and then found out that you developed a cyst on your ovary.

For those of you that had your cyst removed already, did the back pain go away and did your doctor think before the surgery that it could be causing the pain or not? I was just hoping that was the case for some of you. My back pain is nonstop now, every day, not a day goes by that it doesn't hurt. I can hardly tell when it is the supposedly week before my period or if I might be ovulating because of the side pain where the cyst is. It comes and goes but the back pain does not. Yesterday and today was awful. The other day I thought for sure I was ovulating, but today I had some very sharp pains moving in my right side. I can't even keep up with which side I am ovulating on each month now. My DR said that my cyst had grown and was extending towards the middle of my stomach.

I sure do hope that all this pain I am having is coming from this cyst, because I won't know where to go if it is still there after my surgery, February 9th, since I have had an MRI and an X-RAY of my back. Both negative.
I am almost as bad as I was before my hyst with those large fibroids pressing on everything. I lay on my heating pad every night and I am on my third pack of attachable heating pads in a week.
Any suggestions of other sources of this kind of pain?

Low back pain possibly from cyst and did it go away after surgery?

I had constant right sided lower back pain with my cyst. My back felt as if there was a baseball in it. Immediately after the surgery, once the epidural wore off, I noticed the back pain was totally gone. My Dr was amazed. I don't think she thought that the cyst was the cause of my pain. To this day my back has not hurt at all.
Have you asked for pain meds ??? I was taking vicodin at night to help me get comfortable so I could sleep before my surgery. I hope you find some relief soon.

My lower right-sided back pain was also resolved following removal of an ovarian cyst and my right ovary along with it. I opted for removal of the ovary as well if there was any indication of a problem with it in order to avoid any possibility of more surgery in the future. I also had throbbing pain on my right side and used lortab until I had the cyst and ovary removed. Best of luck to you!

Low back pain possibly from cyst and did it go away after surgery?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I do have some pain meds. I was afraid I was asking my doctor for them too much and felt bad for asking them to call in more when I needed them. The pain has progressively gotten worse as time passes. It has to be this cyst, because of the increase of the pain. It is just like when my fibroid was growing. Today I even had alot of pelvic pain. I have Interstitial cystitis of the bladder. I woke up again this morning with it hurting and it hurt all day long until I was able to get home and take a pain pill. They do help. I know that supposedly the pain is still there but they do something to your brain to mask the pain. However they work, they do work. I asked my doctor if he thought I was taking too much and he said no. I told him how I felt bad asking for more and he said not to. I guess as the cyst grows and the pain worsens then I have had to use 1-2 a day now. He even asked me if I wanted the same thing last time I was there. I had to go up to Percocet instead of the Lortab a month or so before my hysterectomy because the pain got so bad. I am still trying to only use the Lortab until the surgery if I can. I did end up having to take 2 and a half today, but it is the 5.5 instead of the 7.5. I should of told him to give me those and then instead of breaking a second one in half, it would already be enough and I wouldn't run out as quick. Hopefully when my surgery is over this will be gone.

My back pain is usually in the middle of my lower back and radiates around to my side, , but it doesn't ease up right in the middle. It always starts right in the middle and when I wake up on my stomach with it hurting, it feels like my whole back is breaking. We got a new Sealy pillowtop mattress last April and I slept great on it before all this started. So, it is not the mattress. I've been asked how is my mattress before. Thanks again, I guest I just needed to hear that some of your back pain problems had disappeared after surgery.

Low back pain possibly from cyst and did it go away after surgery?

Hi Chaychay.
I had the left ovary removed due to cysts and as weird as it sounds, the back pain I had was on the right. I even went to a Urologist the year before the cyst was detected because I had surgery on the right urital when I was a kid and thought that might have something to do with the gradually worsening pain. Got the all-clear from the Urologist (the one who didn't bother to recommend I see my GYN even though the cysts I had showed up even then).
Anyway, the good news is that the back pain is indeed gone now that the cysts and ovary have been removed. I truly hope that this will be the same for you! That nagging back pain gets harder to ignore each day. Please don't be stingy with the pain management! If you need it, take it and get a refill when you need it without the emotional baggage. Take care Chay! MV
