Hexalen questions

Hi to all my hystersisters,

I had my pre-chemo gyne/onc visit on friday. The enlarged node I had last week was gone. My CA 125 was below 5 again. I will have my last chemo tomorrow. She wants to put me on Hexalen as a maintence drug if my insurance will pay for it. Has anyone been on Hexalen before? I never had any major side effects from Taxotere or Carboplatin so I was wondering if that will remain the same if I can go on the Hexalen. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Hexalen questions

Hi Bertha,

Congratulations on the low CA 125 and no more enlarged node, and for being almost done with chemo. It is good that you tolerated it so well. I have never heard of Hexalon, but do think that Siren Song is taking low maintenance chemo drug ( Taxol I think) as a precaution. Here is a link to a WEd MD info site about Hexalon. http://aolsvc.health.webmd.aol.com/m..._data/d01372a1

Hexalen questions

Hi Bertha,

I never heard of Hexalon either but I am curious as to what it is and why you need to take it as a maintanence drug.

I also did 6 treatments of taxol and carboplatin for ovarian cancer and also did not have any problems with it.

Please keep in touch.

Hexalen questions

Dear Shepaerpal and Rosalie.

I asked my gyne/onc if she ever put her patients on low dose chemo for maintenance and she said she does but most insurance companies won't pay for it. I knew that SirenSong was on the taxol but my doctoer said she uses the Hexalen. It is, as far as I read only used in OvCa. I am glad the chemo is done but scared also and thats what prompted me to ask. At least I would know that I have something fighting the cancer cells besides my own body. It is an oral medication so no more needing to take days off of work. BTW I just got home from my last chemo where they had a little party with a big cupcake to celebrate. I'll keep you posted about the Hexalen. If my insurance company doesn't want to pay for it I'll appeal that. I will pay for it if I have to. Be well and you all are with me in my thoughts and prayers.
