back from oncologist

Ladies:

I just wanted you all to know I had a very good visit with the oncologist. I had Stage 1A endometrial cancer, grade 1. However, at this time they believe the hysterectomy (I left my ovaries in) should be sufficient. My CT scan did come back with cysts on my ovaries but they do not think they are cancerous. They would have liked to have taken my lymph nodes for sampling but do not feel my Stage justifys another adominal surgery. I will be watched every three months.

My only question is how fast should I go back and have my ovaries removed (I had my VH on 3/5/02).

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers - I do appreciate it.

Joyce.

Well Joyce, that is good news I bet you are so relieved to have it behind you . Stage 1 is very early.

The ovaries... are they suggesting taking them out ? I asked my oncologist to remove mine as they dont work because of radiation and he said the op. is more traumatic than the chance of cancer. He said unless there was any chance/history or suspicion of cancer he would prefer to leave them. Please let us know .

I am so happy for you, love always x x

Hi Joyce

So glad to hear of your wonderful report.
I too had Endometrial Cancer Grade 1. We are the lucky one's.
You were fortunate in that they were able to do a TVH. Did they know about the Endo Ca prior to the hysterectomy? Or was it discovered afterwards in the biopsy? I thought they always did an abdominal hysterectomy with cancer so they can biopsy everything at the same time. But then I am still fairly new to this.
I too had some large cysts on my ovaries but no cancer was found there. But I had lot's of other stuff going on. Also, I am almost 51 so did not try to keep my ovaries.
As your cancer was Grade 1, I would interpret this to mean it had not spread anywhere. And that you can keep your ovaries if you want to.
Anyway please call your doctor for clarification. Hopefully it will give you some peace of mind if they do not feel you need another operation.
I too will go in every 3 months for one year. The twice a year for one year. Then yearly.
Keep us posted.

Sure sounds like wonderful news to me. The best it could have been. Don't be in too big a hurry to get rid of the ovaries. But surely keep an eye on them.
