I am a newcomer to this forum, finding my way a long. My family doctor sent me for ultrasound back in March 07. Ultrasound showed that the Uterus wall had thickened. He sent me to see a specialist in May. The doctor told me that normal thickness for a woman my age (48) is 5 cm's my ultrasound showed a thickness of 20 cm. I had a hysteroscopy and a d&c four weeks a go. My appointment for the results is on this Monday...don't know what to expect. My one sister had a hysterectomy at the age of 38 yrs and my other sister for the same reasons was 30yrsold. Any comments would be welcome. I have not had heavy bleeding but abnormal spotting and periods are way off.

Hi NervousNellie

I'm sorry you have had to go through the worries and procedures that you have. I had a thickend endometrium too, but was never told what the measurement was. My situation was different tho b/c I was having horrific bleeding, so they planned to put me on Lupron to shut down my estrogen, get the lining thinned out, then do an endometrial ablation. (They did an endometrial biopsy (in the office) first, to check for abnormal cells.)

The thickness can vary with where you are in your cycle and whether you are ovulating or not. I hope your pathology report is good news. Treatment would mostlikely depend on your symptoms and the pathology report, whether Dysplasia is found and if so, whether with atypia or not. Some women have tried hormonal treatments with medication like Megace or similar, to keep the lining healthy - if necessary.

Take things one step at a time. Every woman deserves to get a second opinion (or more) no matter what the situation is, and those multiple opinions make our decisions a little easier in the long run. We can't know in the office what we want to do most times - because we need time to get other opinions and do our homework etc. first.

Please let us know what you find out. Hope all goes well.

Best wishes & gentle s,
Beth

Hi Beth,

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement.

Lupron...brings shivers to my soul. My sweet husband was diagnosed two years ago at the age of 46 with advanced progressive prostate cancer, and Lupron was the only answer. It has thrown him into a women's menopause with severe hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, water retention, loss of sex drive, and all of the muscle mass he worked so hard on.....but he is alive and he is the love of my life. So, it is a love ..... hate relationship that I have with Lupron.

I have an appointment with the specialist this morning, so I shall see what is wrong and what my options are.

Please keep in touch.

Cindy,

Oh my, I'm sorry to about your poor hubby! My husband had prostate cancer at 49, but his was contained and he was able to have a radical prostatectomy last year. I'm so sorry your husband has had to deal with advanced PCa, and pray that things go well for him - and you.

I hope you got good news at your appointment today. You guys derserve any break you can catch. My heart goes out to you.

Gentle s to you both,
Beth

Hi Beth,

I saw the doctor yesterday and YEH! it was good news, surprisingly I didn't know which to feel first, whether to be elated, excited, relieved, or sad that my hubbie wan't told that same kind of news for him. We are extremely complex when it comes to emotions!

Thank you for your kindness, and I am awfully glad that your husbands PCa was caught in the early stage.....they are so young to have PCa, but then cancer is not picky.

Thank you for being there for me

- What a relief! Thank you for sharing your good news. I'm sure you guys were scared. As you said, cancer isn't picky. I will say more prayers for you and your sweet (((DH))) - Asking to keep him comfortable, find the right treatments for his cancer, and that you two have many, many more lovely times together. My goes out to you.

s, Beth
