Good morning, all!! Yesterday was a beautiful day -- sunny and 70 degrees. We went to the K-State spring football scrimmage with friends and family. It's not an exciting game since K-State plays against itself and wins no matter what, but we had lunch in the parking lot (tailgate party), and a GREAT group of people.

Temps today might hit 80 and I have yard work to do. Not loving that since mostly I have to get all the little spiky balls from the Sweet Gum tree cleaned up and the little suckers roll all over the place and spike me when I touch them. Wouldn't be so bad except that there are still so many left on the tree... Ah well, outside in perfect weather, so I guess I'll manage. I'll have my doggies to "help" me.

Oh yes, and here's the best news of all! My grand daughter, who is 18 and has Down's Syndrome, was elected prom queen last night. She got to wear a princess dress and was escorted by EIGHT of the senior boys -- they couldn't settle the matter of who got to escort her peacefully, so they all escorted her. We went and watched her get escorted in -- massive smile on her face, and today there are pictures of her on Facebook, happily wearing her crown.

nancy missed you love ,I'm so envious of your weather I will come clean yard for free board and lodgings lol ,if can sun bath then ,bet your granddaughter loved the attention of all the lads ,she will keep that memory a long time ,and you lot ,we have all the prom stuff here now too ,costs parents a fortune ,like a wedding nearly ,for dresses and stuff ,it's getting a bit more spring like here ,but still cold ,it's never ending winter ,bought bedding plants ,but dare not do my pots or baskets yet as still getting frost ,it's crazy ,we are all going stir crazy ,we love outdoors ,want picnics and walks ,with the kids ,

Good morning Nancy, you must be so proud of your granddaughter! I bet she looked really beautiful! It's very windy here and showery. That hasn't stopped my husband from going out on his bicycle to join in a 60 mile charity run to raise funds to buy our 'special' athletes a new county team kit. Hubby cycles about 160 miles each week and is now training for a 100 mile run in aid of the local children's hospice in 3 weeks time. He says that being out on his bike keeps him sane, just like all my friends on here keep me sane .

Hi swah9 god he must be fit , I cannot ride a bike at all now ,too tortures ,
He a good man doing for good causes ,we have a bike that fits a wheelchair on at work it cost a lot to buy ,and that was raised by good people ,the kids love it ,but the staff have to be fit to peddle it ! ,all things for kids with disability tend to cost the earth ,we are always doing sponsors for equipment ,we are lucky though ,we have a brilliant building and equipment ,the kids deserve it ,I get upset that parents have to fight for every little item needed to enable quality of life ,it's a real struggle for them ,at home ,the kids are heavy and parents backs are damaged its awful ,I have injured myself in the past when we had no hoists ect ,that's why my elbows and back are injured wear and tear ,

Teally, We had snow here on Tuesday -- VERY late for Kansas. Looks like that might be the end of snow for the season, but there's one more overnight freeze in the forecast. Seeds can be planted now, but tomatoes don't go outside until mid-May. I can't believe the money that's spent on prom now... they don't just do the clothes, but also rent limos, eat out at the most expensive restaurants, etc. It's crazy!

Swah, I'm proud of her, but also VERY proud of the students at her school. My grandmother taught special education back when "those kids" were kept separate from the "normal" kids at all times. We've come a long way. 160 miles a week? Wow. I do get it keeping him sane -- my walks after work definitely do that for me, just that time alone to clear my head. I'm SO happy that we're finally getting the weather that will let me get back to a regular schedule with those. My doggie needs the exercise, too.

Hi Teally, yea he's fit in more ways than one!!! He's younger than me too. We've been married 34 years.

I have a bike and am cleared to ride it -- and no pain, so it would probably be fine, but there's a mental thing going on there and the thought of sitting on that seat... lol Nope, not ready.

It's a funny old place ,that wizard of oz town ,it's like the film then ,lol snow then 80s bizarre ,yes Nancy thank god we come a long way since those days ,people were just plane ignorant ,and there is a lot more openness now and education ,all kids mix great ,it can be adults that are cruel ,my first job I had was helping two lads live independently ,in there own home one lad had Down syndrome ,one had autism ,they had been in a institution from age 6 ,until it closed and age 30s ,they did brilliantly ,but took a lot to get used to not getting ready for bed at 6pm ,they thought there was nothing but tv and bed after that time ,as the institute was such that late shift got the clients ready for bed before there shift ended ,it was heart breaking sometimes as they would not just go make a drink or get food ,snack ect, I had to tell them over and over ,this is yours you get what you like when you like ,and we go out after 6 if you like ,you go to bed when you like ,I was with them for ten years ,I absolutely loved it ,they were two brilliant lads such rewarding job ,they became part of the community I got them to join clubs and we went all over , I still see them doing shopping ect .

I could do with a personnel trainer ,I'm really over weight now and not fit ,I loved doing boot camp and boxer size ,I'm not ready to do more than walking ,yet ,I'm really hoping I get a other sick note ,for at least two more week ,as I'm not ready to be responsible for others yet sim still not squatting down ,but mainly due to fear

Teally, I love walking! And I was not at all fit a few years ago, but started slowly - walking only as much as I could without feeling like the whole thing was a chore instead of something fun for me to do. When I got tired, I stopped, if I didn't feel like walking that day, I didn't. I still have that attitude and that's what helps me keep at it -- always doing it FOR myself instead of TO myself. I can be out walking around the park and get tired, then just call my DH and ask him to come and get me. He's always glad to oblige.
