did you see your uterus after the operation?

I would like to see my uterus after the operation. I have a medical profession and am used to seeing peoples inside.
Is there anybody who also wanted to see their own womb after the operation? How did it work out? Did they allow you? Where you awake enough to remember afterwards what it looked like?

did you see your uterus after the operation?

Hi Jolian;
I did not see any pictures of what they took out. I didn't care to see at the time and I am not the "squeamish" type. Later on I was wishing I did see a picture. Recently I got my records which included the pathology. I did not believe how big one of the fibroids was. Even bigger than suggested in the surgical report. I think if I saw it now I would be amazed. Good Luck with your surgery.

did you see your uterus after the operation?

Jolian--- I asked if i could see mine but was told they take it to patholgy asap.(Possibly in a "to go" bag??) So then I asked about a picture, and the nurse said"yes,I think we can get you a picture" and they did!!It is soooo cool.I am so glad I could see it because I just wanted to see what it exactly looked like and to see what had been the cause of all my problems.I am not in the medical profession but had a intrest.I am waiting on the path report........

did you see your uterus after the operation?

Found this topic interesting as I, too, had wished I could see what all the problems inside were about. I actually wished I could have watched the surgery. It turned out I had a torsed ovary so was really curious about that. I also wanted to see what the endometrial cancer looked like. I did get the pathology report which was interesting, but had to use the medical dictionaries on the the Internet quite a bit to understand it.

Have my post op this coming Friday so can ask questions then, also.

did you see your uterus after the operation?

I've got eight photos (two sheets of four) of my hysterectomy. Before and after photos, so to speak. Photos of him separating my bladder from my uterus and then photos of the "hole" where my uterus was. I also have a series of photos from my laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.

did you see your uterus after the operation?

Right before surgery, I mentioned to my doctor that I was going to bring a camera and ask if I could have them take a photo of my "cantaloupe" sized fibroid tumor. He replied "We have poloroid cameras, ask your nurse. Well, I did and they took five. It looks like a turtle!!! I am so happy that I have the photos, kind of brings it into perspective and I am REALLY happy now that it is out of me.

Hugs,
Kathleen

did you see your uterus after the operation?

I would have liked to have seen pictures. I wanted to ask my dr, but forgot until that morning and by then it was the furthest thing from my mind. I really wish now that I had asked about it sooner.

I do have a video from my lap back in February, which I thought was really cool!

did you see your uterus after the operation?

Hi,

You should ask your doctor at least for a picture. After all, if you don't ask, the answer is always no!

I asked my doc for a pic because I was curious about the "outside" fibroid. I am really glad I got it - very interesting. I have even posted it on this site - see with the "my photos" link at the left. The 2 smaller items at the top of the photo are my uterus and ovary.

Good luck and good healing.

did you see your uterus after the operation?

When I came out of surgery and was settled in my room, my mom pulled out a polaroid of my uterus! I was surprised they took a picture of it and gave it to my mom, but, I'm glad I got to see it!

After see the picture and looking at how distorted and huge my uterus was, it just confirmed for me that I made the right decision to go ahead with they hyster.

to picture or not to picture

I too would have like to have seen my uterus and fibroids. All my doctor keep say was "IT was green and stuck to everything". I never thought of asking for a picture. You can ask and if you have it and do not like to view it - put it away.

Afterwards it is to late - so ask now.

My fibroid was 9cm x 5 cm and attached to the ligiment that holds the uterus in place. The pathology report gave the details but I would have liked to have seen the color green.

good luck,
