Had pre-op dr appointment today

First of all - I want to say thank you to everyone who has posted on here. I am so grateful that this website exists and there are so many of you who share their stories here. I also appreciate all of your humor!

I had my pre-op appointment with my GYN today. Found out more details about some of the tests that were run (polycystic ovaries and cervix, problems with stress incontinence and the valve in my urethra).

Doctor said that my uterus, cervix, and both ovaries will be removed - and I will get the bladder/urethra sling - all through the abdomen. The doctor will also remove any endometriosis (if found on any other organs). The doctor said that a complete pathology will be done on everything that is removed to check for cancer.

I'll have general anesthesia only. The surgery should last approximately 1-1/2 hours. I should have a catheter for about 12 hours (or so). (Total stay at the castle should be 2-1/2 days).

We talked about migraines, herbs and ERT - and I decided to go with ERT, so I'll get the patch right after surgery.

I had back surgery in 2002 to fuse bones together. My GYN says that this surgery will have an easier recovery time than my back surgery - and reminded me that other muscles and nerves were involved (so it would be hard to compare the two surgeries).

The one thing that I do notice: waiting for this surgery is harder than waiting for my back surgery. I am not sure why this is on my mind more. (FYI - this will be my 10th surgery - so I would have thought this would be "old hat" by now - but NOooooooo - I'm antsy about this surgery.)

I'm 50 years old - and since I've already begun "the change" (or "the time of my life" as my hubby calls it), I've experienced mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats (among other things). Hopefully these won't be worse after surgery. So I'm not sure what is weighing on my heart (because my mind sure hasn't got a clue)!

What I do know is that whenever I feel anxious, I come here. The posts and articles are so helpful.

Thank you for letting me share!

Annette
