Embarassing-- But I am gonna ask...

This "vaginal cuff".... does anyone know how long (deep?) your vagina ends up being after the surgery?
At one time having a man that was was reason to ...but now I am scared.
How short is a "shortened vagina" ????

I'm so glad you asked that! I was thinking I'm going from having pain during sex because of fibroids...to having pain during sex because my spouse is BLESSED.
Great Question!!

Re: Embarassing-- But I am gonna ask...

okay, so i havent had intercourse yet with my 'new' vajayjay but i dont think your vagina is so much 'shortened'. a lot of women who have posted in the thread about sex after surgery have said that their husbands have not noticed a difference. altho i did read that some women wrote that they felt like their husbands were 'bottoming out'. so i would say each woman is different. but remember that the vagina is a muscle that can stretch and adjust to many different shapes and sizes.

It may be an embarrassing question, but it's a good one. You might find the Post-Op Article, Vagina - Hysterectomy Make It Shorter? helpful in answering that question.

The average vagina is only about 3" long and relaxes and elongates naturally with sexual arousal. If the the vagina is shortened after a hysterectomy, remember that it is elastic enough to hold a tampon or pass a baby.

Hope this helps!

Once all your sutures and incisions are healed, you're good. Its a surgical area so it takes time to heal but the Dr checks post op. I was worried but haven't felt "short". I was afraid and went pretty easy to start. Its just something they don't prepare you to know!
