17 days to go before my hysterectomy ... 1/25

I have 17 days left until my hysterectomy that is scheduled for 1/25. Today I am pampering the "princess in training"- have an appointment to go get my hair cut and colored . Nothing drastic, just a trim and update on my color. Getting my nails done tomorrow, and a pedi next week!

I wish everyone had your positive outlook! Doing positive things for yourself is one of the best ways to reduce stress and stay focused. You deserve to treat yourself well. Eating right, drinking more water, walking/exercise, and getting enough sleep all contribute to better mental and physical health - especially critical before surgery.

Thank you mariciamae- I've been wanting to have a hysterectomy for over a year! Finally found a dr that agreed that I needed one! Getting my hair and nails done isn't out of the normal for me- but I wanted to make sure I had those things in order before my surgery so I won't have to Worry about them afterwards until I'm healed well enough. But the pedi will be extra, can't go into surgery with bad looking feet! Haha. (Even tho my feet will probably be covered with socks)

I am a "cup half full" kinda girl. I always try to be positive.

Pampering yourself is a great idea! (((Marciamae))) also had some good suggestions.

Just be aware that many doctors will not want you to have painted fingernails or toenails. Here is an article on Nail Polish and Hysterectomy. Also be aware that there will probably be restrictions on Shaving or Waxing before Hysterectomy.

I had to remove my gel nails and no toe polish as well.

Also no shaving this week per doctor's instructions.

No shaving what? Your private area? Or legs and under arms as well?

Ugh. I have gel nails, but I did opt for clear polish this time. Surely keeping them won't be a problem.

Shaving anything! Legs under arms and privates for at least 1 week before. This is a requirement so you don't have any nicks/cuts that can get infected.

When I asked about my gel nails I was told they had to be removed and no toe polish.

Best to ask so you are not spending money on your nails only to have them removed prior to surgery.

Check with your doctor, but you should probably arrive with bare fingernails and toenails. And no shaving anywhere. ((Paulette Ap)) is correct that they are worried about small nicks and cuts that can get infected. This is all for your health.

I'm scheduled on 1/25 too. I was not told anything about no shaving when I had over phone pre-op, but it makes sense.

I would err on the side of caution to be safe... Think about it if you nick yourself shaving and "catch" something in the hospital while you are already trying to recover from a major surgery how unpleasant and potentially life threatening is that going to be?
